Oestra was born in one of the harshest clans known to dragonkind; they did things even the Plaguebringer herself would scowl at. Throwing hatchlings out of their nests for crying for their mothers, chasing away those who refused to train until they were bloody and raw. From the moment her egg was laid, a single egg to a highborn family, she was to be a prophecy child. A Mirror, the breed that the Plaguebringer created in her own image, with a body and wings the colour of enemy blood. When she finally hatched, however, her mother scoffed at her and her father refused to even look at her - a Plagueborn, with such bright, blue wings? How could she ever be as threatening as those raising her? How could she be the child the prophecy promised? Still, they reluctantly raised her along with the other Plaguelings - just in case.

She had always been disgusted with the way everyone else treated those they called family, but she tried to hide it so as to not get exalted. The other members of the clan always spoke of the Plaguebringer with such ferocious excitement, describing her as "terrifying", "even more brutal than anything you've ever seen here". Of course, none of that was true, but young Oestra was terrified of being sent to serve this so-called "awful" deity. And so, when her parents proudly announced they had another egg, Oestra, still too young to have even begun training, yet old enough to recognize that this was bad news for her, decided to run away before she could be sent away forever. She gathered what little belongings she had, and took off into the night.

She left the outskirts of the Abiding Boneyard that she'd called home up until this point, away from the hungry young clans all trying to entice her in to joining them, wondering if she was making the right decision, wondering if she had sentenced herself to death. Eventually, Oestra made her way into an area she'd never seen before, and didn't recognise. A deep, dark, dank, forested area. She considered settling down here, close enough to home that if she changed her mind she could go back. Just as she started to relax, she heard a mad cackling coming from all around. Without a second thought she headed directly into the foreboding darkness of the forest. As she went deeper into the forest, it became darker and darker, and the soft shrubs turned to harsh, razor-sharp thorns and brambles. She continued on, her muscles burning and her flesh tearing from the thorns. Eventually she burst through, tumbling into a ice cold, quick moving stream. She'd never been in water this deep before, and began to struggle, losing all her belongings to the water. She eventually managed to scramble up onto a small bank, where she collapsed.

Awoken by a twig cracking, Oestra instantly jumped up to attention, surveying her surroundings. As she did, she noticed the abundance of colours of the landscape around her. Any colour you could imagine, she could see. She was shocked, she had never seen so many beautiful colours in her life. She stood in awe until she heard the grass crunch behind her, and she swung around, ready to defend herself. She looked around, nothing. She looked down and saw a small, fluffy creature. It bounced away, not a care in the world, so she decided to follow it. It lead her to a small, dug-out cave on the edges of a big beautiful forest. She wandered in, settled down for the night, and had the most troubled sleep she had ever had. She dreamed of serving under the Plaguebringer, of being attacked, abused and, perhaps even worse, doing the same to those she loves. She woke up in a cold sweat and sauntered outside, only to be met with a rather large shadow. Startled, she jumped back. The shadow approached her, then slowly it reached down and lit a torch.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━HISTORY━━━━━━
Oestra grew up being told her heritage was something to be feared, that she was something to be feared. As a result, she believes that she has to hide her eyes - the only dead giveaway of her plague origin - or the other dragons in the clan won't trust her. Despite Euarth never being judged for the same reason, she believes that somehow it'd be different for her. As a result, her visual senses are seriously dulled so much they're practically useless.

She spends most of her time alone, brooding in her own thoughts. Her birth clan was mostly Mirrors, which is to be expected. But because of that, she gets frustrated really easily at the other non-Mirror clan members, and she hates herself for that. She still dreams about hunting and killing some nights, waking up feeling both longing and resentment for that lifestyle.

Despite clearly being the Matriarch without question, Oestra refuses to believe that people respect her enough to have her as a leader. She doesn't think she's worthy of that much admiration, even with Euarth's reassurance. Euarth often masks questions from the clan members as being from himself, because he knows she'll turn him away if he treats her as a leader. She daydreams about being the leader the clan deserves, but doesn't believe she'd ever be able to do it.

After struggling with not being around another of her species for so long, Oestra was beginning to think about leaving for a while. That is, until her and Euarth's first nest hatched, and there he was. Her first son, Yzorik, a mirror. Just like her, except with bright, green eyes, the colour of the grass beneath him. Euarth is her only love, but Yzorik is her soul mate. Ever since he was born she has seemed happier, lighter. Oestra had never felt a connection as strong as the one she felt with that young hatchling. She doted on those two, and that rush of love led her to want to have a huge family with Euarth.
