“Pick a card”, he calls through the bazaar, “Any card.” Once in a while, Ace lures in some wide-eyed naive little thing, brimming with wonder and potential, and he swindles them out of every cent they’ve got. After all, they’ve got to learn sometime that the world isn’t all daisies and daffodils, and he knows what its like to learn that the hard way. So he takes their valuables and sends them on their way, happy to provide the lesson to the hopeful hatchlings. More often than not, he’s on his own, slinking through the streets avoiding angry customers and annoying the gullible merchants lined up and down the alleys. His tricks are never intended to be as mean-spirited and dangerous as they are, it just sort of… happens. Not that he’d let a few tricks gone awry wipe the grin off of his face. He hatched with that smarmy smile, the one that he gets whenever he knows something someone else doesn’t (which is more often than not). Ace doesn’t live on the streets; not like some of the other merchants in the bazaar. Through some divine intervention, or maybe just incredible luck, he managed to befriend the owner of the magic supply store. She lets him stay in the small dwelling just behind the shop with her and her wife. In exchange, he runs errands every once in a while and occasionally scares off debt collectors. They don’t ask him for rent; he pays anyways with whatever he earns from his 100% legitimate and totally, definitely not a scam card games. Ace will sometimes catch himself longing for his younger days; the days where he wandered without purpose and spent every night beneath the stars, whether he wanted to or not. ~ Lore By Skunky
