Belladonna can be very eccentric at times, and many dragons find her disquieting. When she is working on a potion, Belladonna can and will forgo food and water until she is at a stopping point. It's not uncommon for Belladonna to interrupt a conversation to write down a potion she has just come up with, or to ignore others in favor of talking to herself about a discovery.

Bella is very intelligent, but also shows a flippancy in her personality. She waves off any reminder of the lives her potions have saved and ended. To her, the effects of the potions are simply results that she can view to devise more experiments.

Belladonna has spent all of her life focused on the scientific and chemical arts. From a very young age, she focused all of her attention on reading about the various compounds that could be combined to make elixirs, poisons, and medicines. She was ravenous in her reading, and was luckily born into a family that was close enough to the top to have access to a large library.

When she was a young adult, Belladonna was hired by the royal family in her birth clan. She was a doctor, officially, though she dealt in all sorts of mixtures. She credits herself and a fertility potion she devised with the arrival of the king's first son with his second wife. As the Royal Apothecary, Belladonna was powerful. Her position gave her the ability to invent new mixtures and purchase ingredients with the royal funds instead of her own.

The only downside to working within the castle was the close proximity to the Crown Prince. He was handsome, and had no sense of personal space whatsoever. Belladonna found herself using the servant's tunnels to escape him, but he grew more and more bold in his pursuit of her. One day, he cornered her and offered her a proposition that Belladonna was in no position to refuse. He wanted her to be his consort. She'd never be Queen, but she'd be powerful. When Belladonna refused, he became enraged and scratched a furious line across her chest.

Belladonna made a poultice herself, and applied it to the wound. The longer she thought about the Prince, the angrier she became. When she saw the scar he had caused across her shoulder and sternum, her anger reached a boiling point. And so, she did what she did best, and devised a potion.

When the castle woke up, they found the Prince's dead body, and their Royal Apothecary missing, along with all of her valuables. Despite the scouts they sent out, Belladonna managed to make a clean get away and set up shop in a small shack off the beaten path and away from the king's reach. Here, she became known to everyone for her skill in potion making, and began to be commissioned for all sorts of jobs. When the criminals learned she wouldn't balk at the idea of creating poisons, they also began to commission her.

It was in that shack that she was approached by Tirrit, who offered her a position within the Laced Skull. She would get paid far more to work with them than she would make taking the various commissions that came her way. With very little reluctance, Belladonna packed her things and followed Tirrit back to the Laced Skull, where she set up her workshop happily.

Marrow
'Boss'

Marrow and Belladonna have a tenuous relationship. Marrow dislikes Bella's flippant attitude and the way she ignores many of his orders in favor of pursuing her own ideas and experiments, and Bella dislikes how Marrow is always trying to keep her in line. Despite their squabbles, Bella would never do anything to harm Marrow, and finds him very intelligent and interesting.
