Biography

| Phaeton, oh Phaeton . . .

Phaeton was a young dragon who never knew his father; his mother had died when he was young, leaving him alone in the world. He worked hard, studied diligently, and managed to nab a spot on the first-ever exploration crew sent to Pelagos, the blue sun that powered their entire system of planets. He was the only dragon on the expedition from the small planet of Aethios; his crew-mates hailed from Pelion, Ilion, Olimpos; the larger, more illustrious worlds of the Pelagos system.

Eager to prove himself, Phaeton explored the Pelagos star farther and longer than any one else, not heedful of his crews' repeated warnings and admonishments. They looked down on him; Phaeton would show them what a dragon from Aethios could do.

His maps of the star and the data he gathered while out on missions became invaluable resources to the scientific community of the Dracoflight Alliance. In time, Phaeton was hailed as a hero to astro-physicists all over the galaxy.

This spurred him on to explore deeper into the Pelagos star, explore closer to the star's surface.

Unfortunately for Phaeton, an intern made a mistake in the calculations for his last mission and so Phaeton was consumed by Pelagos, his life ending in a fantastically fiery demise.

Dragons everywhere heard the news with shock and horror, anguish and grief. A daring, young scientist was dead.

Oddly enough, however, on further missions to Pelagos, researchers would sometimes find hatchlings or eggs floating outside their ship. They are always quickly rescued from the vacuum of space and put under observation and quarantine. None of the hatchlings seem to be negatively affected by their little trip in outer space; neither do they seem at all changed by their exposure to high levels of solar radiation.

When asked where these hatchlings' parents are, so that they may be returned to their families, the hatchlings always point at Pelagos and refuse to elaborate more. Nobody has ever come forth to claim one of these hatchlings as their own, and so they are sent to the Alliance Adoption agency for them to find a new home.

In the small, unnamed village that Phaeton called home, however, legends abound of the sun's new consort: a dashing young adventurer who journeyed to the heart of a star--and captured it.
