Several studies have shown that the more an object – be it a statue, a familiar, or even a magical phenomenon – resembles a dragon, the more those same dragons will be able to emphasize or feel attachment to it. Until a certain point, that is. The moment this resemblance reaches a certain point, it will elicit a feeling of eeriness or even revulsion. Ewynnai’s statues tread that fine line, always balancing on the ledges of the uncanny valley, so reassuringly lifeless yet beautifully lifelike all the same. But even if the statues are testament to her skills, there is something unearthly about the sculptor herself, a general aura of wrongness constantly hovering around her. Maybe it is how her attention wanders even mid-conversation, if one has the luck to even get her attention long enough to initiate one? Or how at all times at least three of her long, elegant fingers dance on the surface of any nearby object regardless of what she’s doing with the others? Wait – is that the wall on the other side of the cave?

Like a thousand thousand Skydancers before her, Ewynnai emerged from a lime-green egg in the middle of a nest of straws and grass and bamboo. Her parents were Vakaris and Eirene, two members of the Reedsong clan, which nested on a lone peak in the middle of the Twisting Crescendo. This was her parents' first clutch, and they had all the support a large, wealthy, well-established clan could give them. Both her parents were in good health, and, as the only on in her clutch, her egg had all of their undivided attention. And so it came to be that, on a warm summer's night, rocked by the ever-strong winds the Windsinger conjured from his reedy abode, a single eggshell cracked, and young Ewynnai spread her seafoam-coloured wings into this wide new world.

Skydancers tend to display psychic powers very early in their youth, and Ewynnai was no exception. Soon after hatching, she could feel the emotions radiating from other hatchlings, and that without any sort of restraint. Nevertheless, all who share clans with Skydancers learn to protect themselves from their curious hatchlings' intrusive - though involuntary - mental probing. Even then, other dragons not-so-used to shielding their minds often remarked how discomforting hers war, though out of earshot. Skydancers tend to be obsessive parents, and the young dragon's mother would give her all of her attention, trying to school her in the ways of the mind. And so it was that young Ewynnai grew fairly usually for a Skydancer hatchling, if somewhat sullen and grim.
