Hyde and his mate, Jekyll, were raised in a clan that accepted and even encouraged the breeding of brother and sister. From the time he was hatched, he was intended to take his sister, Jekyll, as his mate. And so, when they came of age, he did. Their parents supported them in everything. They had three healthy clutches together, and even though the arranged "marriage" cause problems between the two, they made it through and made it work. They didn't want to disappoint their parents.

Everything fell apart the day Jekyll's third clutch hatched. Although very lenient and understanding, the clan had a few highly feared superstitions. One of those was the fear that the Shade would eventually find its way into their gentle lair, despite the dozens of magic users who defended it day in and day out.

They wandered and eventually came across Rahket's clan, and were welcomed in. After explaining, everyone just laughed at the overly suspicious nature of the previous clan. They didn't tell them about the acceptance of incestual relationships, or the one between the two.

Later, however long later, the clan sage discovered the relationship, which got him curious and led to deeper more extensive research. Then he found something interesting. He approached Hyde and Jekyll, when no others were around to protect their privacy. They were shocked when he said that he knew, but the shock only grew when he told them what he had found: They weren't actually related to each other. Their mother had never agreed with the incest in the clan but loved her mate so much she didn't say anything. When she was told her offspring would have to be as such, she decided to do something about it. She went out and found, secretly, another mother who had just hatched their nest. She explained briefly the situation, and the other mother was so understanding that she agreed to exchange one hatchling, to ease her mind. Even though Hyde's mother aws the only one who knew, it helped her get through it from knowing they weren't actually related.
