Cimmerian

A daughter of Umbra and Shadowfall, Cimmerian has eschewed entirely the studious nature of her family. She was always an inattentive student, except when certain subjects were discussed by her herbalist mother: the uses of certain plants as dyes. Fascinated by how colors could emerge from materials that seemed to have no connection to those shades, she focused on this line of study, quickly devouring all her mother's knowledge of the subject.

Undeterred by this, she turned to scrolls and tomes, sending for more manuscripts on dyemaking, and eventually making her own workshop for her own experimentation. She learned to make allowances for the sharp fumes of mordants, how to salvage a failed batch by crafting a new shade from it, and how to ensure solid coverage with no spots or fading.

She is proud of her work, but yearns to travel, to study new sources of colors, such as those from small insects or sea snails, or those from minerals and stones. She feels that she will be able to make a name for herself in this field, regardless of the perceived frivolousness of her work. She knows that wise words come easy, but a good solid crimson is always in demand.
