Biography
Kilter
Trait1 / Trait2 / Trait3
Kilter was hatched in Plague, which is surprising when you look at her. But it’s true. She was born to a pack of savage Mirrors who killed for fun and sport. Very few dragons in Sornieth were even willing to spend time with that clan, and they weren’t afraid to show it. Even members of the clan had this kind of aversion to one another, except during hunts. Hunts and public execution were the only time these creature came together. Kilter was born to a Tundra of the night who came by looking for shelter. He found Snapdragon, the only even mildly sane dragon in the entire pack. As soon as they found out they were expecting, they left that terrible clan and tried to find a home in a different Plague clan. The Tundra would have been killed for not being a Mirror, and any Tundra babies would have had the same fate. The children that were born were quite beautiful. Only one problem. They seemed to carry their grandmother’s evil genes. They were cruel and hateful, and nothing seemed to be able to change that. Literally nothing their parents tried was able to fix the little demons. Eventually, the leader of their old clan banished them, for fear of them injuring someone, even by mistake. One little Mirror, called Kilter, was particularly vicious. Only one thing seemed to calm her down from her natural hunting impulses: music. Kilter had natural rage building up inside her at all times. If you didn’t whistle or hum coming up behind her, there was a chance you’d get your face slashed off. However, even a slight whistle seemed to soothe her instincts. She would turn and smile gently at anyone who made music for her, and she’d have perfectly normal conversations. However, if you failed to do so, chances are she would tackle and eat you alive without hesitation. Kilter doesn’t mean to hurt people. It’s just something in her DNA that forces her to be someone she doesn’t want to be. Most think it’s from exposure to the Wyrmwound when she was very young. No one knows how she found this clan. But the dragon she first came into contact with, Reina, was humming when they met. She explained that in order to have a proper conversation with her, she needed to hear a whistle or something. Reina explained the situation to the clan, and Kilter was accepted. Everyone is very careful not to sneak up on her and be silent while doing it. Even those who can barely carry a tune pound out a little rhythm on the ground before approaching her. Kilter likes the clan well enough, and she serves as an excellent “guard dog,” so to speak. Most intruders don’t walk into the territory whistling, so Kilter is a good first defense in that way. |
