BIO TEMPLATE
____________

The Lich is a creature of few talents, but many mysteries. Some believe they are the Reaper, disguised to walk among dragonfolk and prey upon the weak. Others believe her a trickster, a witch of dark magics and shade. Aurkene is viewed differently by each clan, culture, and even deity. To the plaguebringer she is salvation, to the Arcanist she is destruction and foolery.

Aurkene was a still born egg, a lost child to the parents of two powerful warriors. She was left alone and cold in an abandoned nest, to never see the light of day. Something deep inside the egg rumbled, someone or something wanted this hatchling. When she emerged her scales were stained and eyes a dangerous glow. The runic symbols against her sides dripped blood and a mysterious black ooze, something she would later learn was the Shade coursing through her veins.

It had been centuries since a stillborn egg had appeared in a nest. The magic of the land always soaked into the eggs, allowing the hatchlings to remain strong and survive the hatching process. The Starfall Isles were especially gifted in this sense, and it was rare for dragons to even be weak when hatched. But as always, darkness always finds a way. A small egg was nested but never grew. It was smaller than any of the other eggs in the nest and as they grew brighter as the magic-filled them, this egg seemed to grow duller. Instead of hovering in the nest like the others, it rested in the grass below, dark and unmoving. The parents were grieved but they knew there was little they could do. They carried the egg away from the others, leaving it in a patch of sunlight in the woods. They said goodbye and walked away, never returning to see what happened. They should have.

Weeks later, long after the other eggs had hatched and the family had moved on, a dark and cloudy night came upon the Isles. The air was cold and suffocating and dragons stayed inside, huddled around their loved ones, wondering what had brought on the darkness. If any had bothered to look outside they would have seen shadows creeping along the ground, moving without the wind controlling them. These shadows were drawn to the stillborn egg and then seeped inside the shell. It darkened further, turning completely black, before cracking open. Wisps of darkness lifted into the air, taking the shape of a being not seen for thousands of years. The figure smiled darkly down at its creation, eager to bring its plan into effect. The Lich was alive.

The hatchling that had been born was a dark blood-red. The Shade had created its masterpiece, a dragon capable of bringing down the barriers that stopped it from capturing Sornieth as its own land, to rule in darkness. The hatchling grew, wild and animalistic. It ate whatever came across its path even if it were other hatchlings. It ventured about the land, slowly drawing closer to where the Arcanist had first seen the Shade. Once the hatchling reached that point, the Shade could be released from its prison. What it did not count on was an imperial coming and snatching the hatchling away, carrying it far from where the Shade wanted it to be.

Onasi had kidnapped the hatchling, though couldn’t return it home because she didn’t know where that was. And so the little dragon, named Aurkene, grew up in the Clan of the Lost. She learned about dragon kind and saw herself as one of them, despite the circumstances of her birth. No one knew what she truly was, what she was capable. No one except for one dragon, another imperial by the name of Widow. She drew the child to herself, soaking in the power of the Shade and while the ancient being wasn’t pleased about the change in his plans, he was eager about how things would turn out with this clan.

Aurkene grew into a beautiful pearlcatcher and was mated to (Breed to be determined) by the name of Hades. Her mate and Widow kept a close eye on her, a tight leash that she could never escape. But the Shade’s daughter was oblivious, knowing not what she truly was. And no one had any plans on telling her what she was. To be honest, the pearlcatcher was a bit of an airhead. She did not contain the magic that others possessed and because of that, she was not as smart as she should have been. No one faulted her for this, but it only pleased Widow more. A dragon who didn’t know what it was and wasn’t smart enough to figure it out would be the perfect weapon. Aurkene didn’t know what was happening within the clan, but she knew that she was at the center of it all. And the part of her that was purely the Shade writhed with pleasure at the thought.
