Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this dark Pearlcatcher wandered a little too far from his home lair (Dragonclaw101, #259865), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Travel Log:

Contrary to his appearance, "Drake" isn't a real dragon at all; it's actually a malevolent force originally formed from energy released by the Shade's destruction, who possessed the body of an infantile Pearlcatcher and led him away from home. After escaping his home clan and thoroughly separating himself from his previous family, the being began to hollow out Drake's brain, replacing his original personality with a twisted, all-encompassing darkness. There's very little left of the boy at this point.

Having gotten all it could from its host, the being now feeds off of the negative emotions of other dragons and manipulates them into embracing the darkness deep within their heart. It discovered through experience that even the most sickeningly optimistic dragons could be turned into a food source, with enough heavy berating and soul-crushing pessimism. Positivity is actively draining for it to be around, so it tends to avoid untroubled clans full of happy dragons: the more angst and despair among them, the better.

Drake spent a lot of time in Myura's clan, relishing in the sorrow that her family held over the hopeless condition of her husband, Mojack. After a while, though, he grew bored of the same despair day after day; misery only kept its taste for so long before it became tiring to his palate, after all. Fortunately for him, it wasn't long before Drake found a new dragon that would suit his tastes nicely, at least for a while...

Loyalty was a miserable Tundra, filled with despair and hatred for other dragons after they chased him away from his newborn children, and left him to die in the wilds. He soon swore allegiance to the Beastclans, as they were the only creatures that had shown him sympathy when he was at his lowest; after having some incredibly positive experiences in other dragon clans from all walks of Sornieth, however, he started to regret denouncing his own kind so quickly. His heart was torn asunder by his warring loyalties, and it bled delicious emotional pain for Drake to consume.

Unbeknownst to Loyalty, Drake followed him once he departed from his birth-clan once again, growing stronger with every passing moment the Tundra spent in internal conflict...

Drake enjoyed torturing the young Tundra by whispering into his ear, increasing his growing doubt and internal conflict. The lad proved rather useful as Drake's skin slowly turned darker whenever his power grew. Contrary to it, the body he hosted would turn a lighter shade when he became weak, but he never let that condition last for too long.

He followed Loyalty wherever he went, and so he too was present when the Roc announced the role Tundra would take in the upcoming events. And what a face the despairing fuzzball made, ha! Drake would laugh out loud, had he the freedom to. And that little Imperial baby they brought out... For a short while, Loyalty was left to his own devices as Drake turned his attention to it, for the baby was whimpering and shivering in fear; just what the doctor ordered. There was something different in each dragon he met; it was like trying out fine wine for the first time. You grow accustomed to their taste, and it never fully leaves you, not even if you leave them. Loyalty's fear felt harsh, maybe even with a kind of a bitter aftertaste? But the baby's fear was sweet, like honey.

Drake kept close to the imp baby, using his experience in staying off the radar up until the evening, when it was time to return to his travelling companion, as he liked to think of him, and just in time! The baby was fun to be around, he didn't even have to try and shove more fear and despair down it's throat in the form of whispers, but Loyalty... This was the perfect time to lay down next to the Tundra and interrupt his sleep with some dark words, threats, depressing outcomes and the likes. He had his fun for an hour or two before growing bored and walking away, to catch some sleep himself.

The events panned out much to his liking, with the ensuing fight between the Beastclan and the Dragonclan, ending in him completely forgetting about Loyalty for a time and moving from one wounded to another, relishing in the pain they felt and the fear of incoming death looming over their broken bodies. His skin became so dark it seemed almost black, with a faint purple reflection, and the clawtips on his feet and wings rapidly grew out, becoming more finger-like, with additional joints appearing; it was as if his body could barely contain the amount of power it received in such a short time.

Unlike the Tundra he "traveled" with, Drake stuck around the see the end of the fight, heaving and gasping heavily in the midst of what used to be a battlefield. The amount of power received weighed on him quite literally, as his skin had to stretch to make his body big enough and the clawtips that seemed more like double-jointed, independent fingers made him look less dragon and more... monstrous. The question was if Drake himself was even aware of what he was turning his hosts (or more, his own) body into?

By the time he recuperated and found the Tundra deep down in the canyon, the weak dragon was already crying in some other dragon's fur. Pathetic. He took to observing the two from the cliff above them, mimicking throwing up occasionally.
As the one he followed slowly (and ever so slightly) mended his heart and mind in the company of another, Drake grew more and more bored. Add to it that the sudden influx of power stagnated, and even (also ever so slightly) decayed, you most certainly didn't have one happy dragon on your hands. Thankfully, the two separated soon after so he could continue his journey following the boy. But, this encounter with the female gave the Tundra a slight boost of confidence.

Drake mused as he kept his distance while following; if he doesn't play this right, Loyalty might actually slip from his grasp and regain his inner peace. But, does he even want to go through the effort of clinging onto the Tundra all this time? Surely he can find easier prey along the way?
The whole dilemma strangely put a smile on the dark dragon's face. "I may have invested too much of my time in you, Loyalty, to just let you go so easily... But time always has the last word, my torn friend. Time always decides." Another laugh escaped him, an insane laugh that only comes from deep within a dark heart. - Strukla
