Adhail
Primary Role
Councillor The New Normal Adhail came to the clan with Fargentis, looking for somewhere that would accept him. His relationship with Far grew from friends to partners, and from partners to lovers in quick succession. But something about it didn't quite feel right. Some things worked, of course. They slept curled around each other (as far away from the other imperials as possible; Emperors weren't just legends, after all, and however much they cared for each other, few enough of their clanmates would be happy permanently tied together), and stayed awake more nights than they didn't talking, or enjoying the other's physical presence. He was happy like that, wrapped around her. It felt as though he were breathing through two sets of lungs instead of four and the thought made him heady. Adhail's silent concerns, however, began to come between them. She noticed his distance during the day and began to grow frustrated when he couldn't answer her. "What are you thinking?" she would ask. "What's wrong?" He wanted to tell her. He desperately wanted to share it with her. If only he could figure out what it was. On one of their better evenings, curled around each other as they used to, Far, wondered, wistfully, what it would be like to be joined together. "Does an Emperor think with both heads, Atha, or one? Could we still talk like this if we melded together?" He shrugged. When she was in this kind of mood, a response wasn't really necessary. "Atha?" her pet name for him. "How would they refer to us? Would they have to use different pronouns for different heads? Or would they just call us 'they'?" And something stuck. They. They? They. And something in his heart said "Yes. --- Though not the first non-binary dragon in the clan, Adhail didn't get too much advice from their adoptive clan. Not for lack of support, so much as simply not knowing who to talk to. The only other non-binary in the clan at the time, Denala, kept mostly to themselves. Adhail tries not to feel too resentful about this, but sometimes it's a struggle. So, to rectify the problem, they have decided to make themselves available far more readily to talk to hatchlings who have their doubts about their identities. They hope that their experience will make it easier to relate to as many situations as possible, but that isn't always realistic. Still, they try. And thus far, quite a few dragons have been grateful for someone to talk to. Not just the hatchlings. |
