Amell

In a clan full of thinkers, doers and engineers, Amell is a bit of an anomaly. She dances.

She loves to dance. She teaches dances to the hatchlings for fun and exercise. She dances with the warriors to help keep them limber and supple.

She travels to other clans and even other lands to learn their dances. She teaches hers in return.

Someday, she wants to gather together dancers from all the flights and tour the world. Maybe if everyone is busy dancing, they won’t have time for fighting.

Since the tragedy of the kiteship, the ties between Stormcliff, Lair by the Sea and survivors of the Dream had grown. Amell had heard of the finding of a great library in the light lands, and that there were books on dances from times long ago to be found within it. She, Cotota the clan scribe, several of the traders and a suitable escort were soon headed off for the Light lands.

They arrived late, just as the sun was setting. The visit to the library would have to wait until morning. But the fractured clan was more than pleased by the visitors, the trade goods and the gifts they had brought.

A gentle party had occurred with food, song and dancing. Amell bowed out after awhile, pleading weariness from the journey. She was in fact, not tired but wanted to let the other dancers shine. She paced off along the headlands, enjoying the cool night air when the subtle thud of feet caught her attention. There, far from the fires and the crowd, a pale tundra danced in the moonlight.

Amell made her way closer and watched quietly. The youngling's style was rough. Her technique, unrefined. But that was merely age and practice. The wildclaw saw the joy in her limbs as she danced to unseen drums, as she flowed around the beams of light that fell through the trees. How the leaves on the ground became her partner in a feather dance. One that Amell had trouble pulling off herself. She backed away from the young dancer and smiled. If she was very lucky, she would be returning to Stormcliff with something far more precious than the copies of books she had come after.
