lightningvs1.png The M-99 Mk. 1 Lightning Guns, or so-called "Buster Cannons", were heralded as the pinnacle of Lightning technology when they were developed. Their massive barrels could produce a sustained voltage of huge magnitude, far beyond the output of any weapon seen previously, and the highly focused and collimated beam gave the cannons extraordinary penetrative power. Steel walls, lead plating, even adamantium-alloy armour all fell beneath its fire.

However, there were some technical issues. The sheer output of the Mk. 1 Buster Cannon made it dangerous for other dragons to be near it when it was firing, making it a poor choice to deploy with infantry. The power cells it ran off were extremely expensive to make, and contained several highly toxic elements, making them difficult to dispose of. And in many ways, it was just excessive and too expensive to run; later versions of the cannon, such as the sleek Mk. 3, drastically reduced the firepower, dismissing the huge output of the Mk. 1 as "overkill".
