END of SUMMER  the best of times, the worst of times ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Sometimes when the city lights reflect off of the wet asphalt and the air feels dark and oppressive, you'll find yourself standing before the threshold of a humble little shop with wind chimes and bells hanging from the awning and a cat weaving around your feet. The shop does not have a name, at least none that you know of, and the wooden plaque above the door is worn with age. You take in the intricate latticework on the windows and place a hand on the lion-shaped brass door knocker. Sometimes when the clouds hang low and heavy and the thunder murmurs a bit too close for comfort, Atlas will light a stick of incense and watch the fragrant smoke curl through his shop. He'll pull the blinds up and reorganize all of his wares- a handcrafted astrolabe from the star-painter, iridescent scales from the last dragon, an lotus blossom forever in bloom, among them- and sit behind the counter, a smile on his face as he scrolls through his phone and awaits his first customer in years. |
