Biography
PHANAIKELUTH
TEMPLE GUARDIAN
Animated coli sidebars by Nirwana |
Once, long ago, she was the daughter of a court guard who worked at the Beacon of the Radiant Eye and a lady of the court who had come to the Sunbeam Ruins from Dragonhome.
When her father was punished for a crime that was never committed by him, he had to flee to the Southern Icefield together with his wife. There, they came to rest briefly, and a daughter was born, but through most unfortunate circumstances, they had to abandon her in an icy mountain village. The young dragon tried to get by by weaving cloth, and the other villagers noted her diligence and kindness. She was a joy for the other villagers to behold, and they dearly loved having her around. But some did not quite think her to be an ordinary dragon, and they observed as she spent hours of meditation underneath the ice-cold waterfalls in this region. One day, a young nobleman called Hiromasa came to the village as he was on a long journey through the mountains, hoping to find a long lost shrine where the teachings of golden light would be spread. Inhabitants of other villages in the mountains had told him that here, he would find a manifestation of the golden light - at least that was how the legends told it. By the time he came there, he was nearly frozen and had fallen ill. A young seamstress tended to him in his fever dreams, and when he slowly came back to health, he was surprised when he saw her, for she was of similar colours as himself, and she, as well, possessed many fur-covered tails and a love for music by moonlight. As he returned to health, he gave the seamstress the only thing of worth he possessed during his journey: a wood-carved figurine of Phanaikeluth, the white-robed attendant of the Golden Crow. His gift was answered with a gentle smile, and then, the seamstress revealed herself. |

Truly, this dragon was not an ordinary one: she was an ages old Tenko, having passed gruesome trials and having vowed to protect all beings and lead them to wisdom. What Hiromasa and the other villagers had seen was nothing but an incarnation of hers, maybe one that was based on a form she had chosen in an earlier time and age.
Regardless, Hiromasa was left speechless by this revelation. He asked the newly revealed White-Robed one to show him the temple of the Golden Crow, so that he might pledge his service to protecting it, but the plan of Phanaikeluth was a different one. He was to become a warrior first, and then visit the Beacon of the Radiant Eye to find a person of great importance there. Thus, Hiromasa was trained in the icy waterfalls where Phanaikeluth had meditated for so many hours on end. She then led him to the Sunbeam Ruins, but there, he was to be left alone - her aim lay further to the north. The Herald had already awaited her at the temple, and she was venerated by the visitors of the temple quite soon as well. And when it became obvious that this place was not built to last, she helped the Herald in getting into contact with Seimei and Hiromasa, who would soon come to this place to protect it when all others would flee. During the battle, she decided to only fight when necessary, and mainly healed those in need and showed them how to escape. After the Golden Crow returned to its slumber again, and when all devotees had left the island for good, Phanaikeluth stayed at the redwood shrine together with the few others that had remained. Then and even nowadays, her sight is a rare one. Seimei knows how to call her when he is in need of her wisdom, and the Herald is in steady contact with her, but of the others, only a few have even caught a glimpse of her. Most of the time, she travels around, spreading the teachings in whispers to those who would seek it, giving healing to those who would call to her. |
