В корейской мифологии нечистая сила из разряда квисин. Согласно одному из описаний на голове токкэби рог, борода его красноватого цвета, тело зелёное, но бесплотное. По представлениям средневековых корейцев, обладал свойствами силы тьмы. Народная мифология и фольклор содержат большое число разновидностей токкэби. Считалось, в токкэби превращаются предметы домашнего обихода и вещи, бывшие в долгом употреблении (веник, кочерга, сито, осколки гончарных изделий, тряпьё). С людьми токкэби поддерживает дружеские отношения, хотя и любит проделывать шутки над ними. Особенно он привязан к тем, кто носит фамилию Ким. Поэтому его нередко величают «Учитель Ким».
С помощью волшебных сил он мог превратить болото в равнину, перейти через бескрайнее море, проникнуть в запертое помещение, влезть в закрытый горшок и т. д.
