HISTORY
The fairies of the various Unseelie Courts are a malicious breed, and Orion's parents were no exception. Although her father was more moderate in his behavior, her mother was an Unseelie Queen through and through and was determined to raise her children to be like herself. The Queen, however, was cruel to her own children, and they rejected her teachings entirely. Orion and her siblings fled to the mortal world to find homes with other clans.

She exited into a great forest, where a pair of passing foragers caught her attention. She followed them back to their lair, and there she learned that they had recently hatched their first clutch: three Tundras and a Fae. Orion, who had herself taken the form of a Tundra, insinuated herself among the children. She used her magic to alter the memories of the clan so that they would believe she had been born there. A portion of her magic was cast upon the Fae hatchling. They exchanged names, so that he became Orion and she became Aurelie. The newly-named Aurelie used her magic to spirit the Fae child away -- not to her parents' court, as changelings normally did, but to a clan in the Southern Icefield, far out of reach of the Unseelie Queen and King.

The clan was none the wiser about what Aurelie had done, and she was raised by the foragers as their own daughter. She had learned much about the mortals during her time in the fairy court, for her mother had wanted her to learn about the beings she would prey on. Aurelie saw them not as prey, however, but as kin. She considers herself more of a dragon than a fairy now, though her magic remains concealed within her -- and she has much yet to understand about living as a mortal.

CHARACTER
Although Aurelie does not miss anything about the fairy court, there is one exception to this, and that is treasure. As a purported mortal, she enjoys exploring different places and is always on the lookout for valuables to take home. She has a keen, discerning eye and, like the best appraisers, can quickly tell treasure from junk -- though she may take home junk anyway because it fascinates her. To the endless despair of her greedier clanmates, it is the thrill of seeking and finding treasure that she enjoys, not the possession of it. She has been known to uncover caches of treasure in the wild, only to leave them behind and forget about them.

While she has forsaken the fairy lifestyle, she is still very much a fairy and has some powerful magic within her. It makes her quite brash and confident, and she sometimes gets into arguments with other beings. She is stubborn, whimsical, and sometimes just a bit self-entitled. Though she would never let slip that she is a former fairy princess, it is something she sometimes repeats to herself to bolster her own ego -- with significant results. Her clan knows her as a risk-taker, a loose cannon who needs but shuns supervision. There were efforts to assign chaperones to keep an eye on her, but Aurelie always gave them the slip, and the clan has given up sending dragons to accompany her. She prefers to explore alone.

Despite that, Aurelie likes to make friends. Like most fairies, when she wants to be, she can be very charming and beguiling, though in her case, more often than not, the warmth is genuine. She is very tender towards the elderly, the sick, and the very young, cheering them up with chipper conversation and jokes. She will also readily approach strangers and strike up conversations with them. She enjoys learning about their daily lives, such as their meals, work, and the clans they hail from. It can get a bit creepy at times, but because of the way she speaks, drawing dragons into stories and relating tales of her own travels, most dragons do not realize how much they are telling her about themselves.

Most of these stories are for Aurelie's own curiosity and amusement, but a few are used to help her fit in with the rest of dragonkind. She is cunning enough to know when to mimic other dragons and when to step back and ask questions. To bolster her knowledge, she sometimes studies -- though this isn't really ideal for her, as she hates keeping still and finds reading boring.

Few Disillusionists know that she is a changeling. She casts spells that shield her from harmful substances (like iron and certain herbs), though she has to renew them regularly so that they don't fall apart. This helps her maintain her cover. There are also times when she lets slip that she knows more than she is supposed to, but the clan tends to brush these off -- this is itself another helpful side effect of the aforementioned shielding spells. She is actually somewhat older than her "hatchmates" and the clan sometimes jokes that she ate a lot as a child, which was why she grew a lot faster than they did.

There are some who do know that she is a fairy: Minuit has promised to keep her secret, and other dragons simply don't think that her true identity is worth reporting. Nobody in the clan knows that she was once a princess of an Unseelie Court, and she would prefer to keep it that way. Though she still feels guilty about taking her adoptive brother's place, she also harbors fear that her birth mother will find her and drag her back, or inflict torments upon her clan.

RELATIONSHIPS
29734293p.png Briar | (Adoptive) Mother
A headstrong Tundra whose personality mirrors Aurelie's. It's often said that Aurelie inherited much of her strength from her "mother", a compliment that Aurelie regards with mixed feelings. In recent years they have grown apart, and while Briar has always expected this, in truth it is because Aurelie still feels some guilt for deceiving her family -- and also because she has trouble reconciling her adoptive mother with her birth mother, whom she remembers all too well.
34004060p.png Rickart | (Adoptive) Father
The quiet, diffident Rickart is a far cry from Aurelie's noble birth father, and she has always found it difficult to connect with him. In a way, it's a relief: It's easy for her to avoid conversing with him, and to this day, while they are very fond of each other, they don't have much in common to talk about.
31015704p.png Indra | Friend
Aurelie has always been eager to bond with familiars, just like other dragons, and Indra the Familiar Caretaker nearly had his paws full with her. She eventually settled on a Buttersnake, to Indra's great relief, and she occasionally still stops by the Familiar Creche to see the new additions and help (?) him out with them.
32435509p.png Minuit | Friend?
Having been imprisoned by a cruel fairy prince for uncountable years, Minuit is fearful of all fairies. He recognizes Aurelie for what she is, and though he has pledged to keep her secret, he finds it painfully difficult to trust her. Aurelie, due to her own hard life in the Unseelie Court, has some sympathy for him. Despite his distrust of her, she feels an odd sort of protectiveness towards him, and has often considered telling him about her own past as an Unseelie Princess.

STATS & ABILITIES
combat1-3.png
Aurelie is a trickster, not a warrior. While she has been known to start fights, one will be hard-pressed to find stories of her actually finishing them. She uses her magic to trick, entrap, and bedazzle, though she will always stop short of actually hurting anybody. Should that fail, she will simply disappear. The clan hasn't tried teaching her to use weapons, and it's probably just as well: iron is toxic to fairies.
_______________________________________
vitality1-10.png
Immune to mortal illnesses, and also blessed with a nigh-inexhaustible stockpile of energy. Aurelie is almost perpetually bright and chipper and is rarely seen without a smile on her face. Even her fur seems to be bristling with energy of its own. The Runes around her feet are a good indication of her mood: The more agitated they seem to be, the higher her energy and alertness. Dull, sluggish Runes are rare, and usually mean that she is feeling sleepy rather than sad or sick.

magic1-8.png
Aurelie left her home before she could learn some truly devastating enchantments, but this is probably for the best. Most of her magic is dedicated to concealment and self-protection, helping her blend in with the rest of the populace. She will always have some spells running: The most active ones keep her from getting into serious trouble and make it difficult for hostile beings to perceive her. She maintains these spells religiously and has become so good at them that it is nearly impossible for most spirit seers and thaumaturges to detect what she really is.
_______________________________________
intelligence1-5.png
Most of Aurelie's early education was dedicated to the manipulation of mortals, a subject she quickly lost interest in. Even among the Disillusionists, however, she was a less than eager student, frequently wandering away from lessons and dozing off during class. She amasses a great deal of information while wandering and speaking with other dragons, but also tends to forget it too quickly. Out in the wild, she relies on her magic and sheer luck rather than any survivalist techniques.
_______________________________________
charisma1-9.png
A soft, harmless-looking dragon whose cheerful expression always invites conversation. Aurelie makes friends everywhere, and though her magic means that many of these strangers forget her after a while, she doesn't really mind. Some of them may find that they remember her when they encounter her while her magic is weak, which can cause trouble if they are feeling belligerent. But for the most part, Aurelie is happy to be a friend to all, and easily slips into conversations with just about anyone.
_______________________________________
luck1-10.png
Luck is Aurelie's lifeblood. Like many fairies, she has a supernatural amount of it, the world seemingly going out of its way to help her through life. She has had so many near escapes and misses that it has stopped being remarkable. Some of these might get noticed when her magic wanes, but the moment the spells are up and running again, they are simply dismissed as coincidences. Aurelie is careful not to make herself too lucky, lest she attract unwelcome attention from other beings, and this seems to be working well for her so far.
