It is not uncommon for dragons to mistake Meilyr as Calana's apprentice. While it's true that the Fae does spend much time with the kooky alchemist, it is because he supplies her with the ingredients she needs for her potions and salves. The two are constantly consulting with each other. While he does dabble with potion making, Meilyr's skill is not the greatest, but his knowledge on fresh ingredients and where to find them in the best quality is invaluable. His photographic memory also makes him particularly good with remembering the ingredients of specific potions. So while he does not have the panache to brew elixirs himself, Meilyr has the ability to instruct someone who can to make the best healing potions or the most fatal poisons.
