______ Adrienne was born in a nest of triplets in the Scarred Wasteland, his parents’ second nest of four. His siblings, all ten of them in total, and he were almost exactly alike in color, pattern, and, in the beginning, personality. He had no identity other than one of three crimson triplets, with no claim to a greater title. However, when Adrienne came of age, it was obvious that he had no trouble standing out from his clanmates and family. The Spiral was mischievous, curious, and sought trouble like a wolf hounding a doe. Disliked by many, he was picked on by his siblings especially and looked down upon in general by all who knew him. Fortunately, he was quick to make friends with other misfits and delinquents wherever he went, and he went many places the moment he was able to leave the clan.

While his siblings grew up to lead normal, semi-successful lives, Adrienne felt discord calling him. He was experimental, always trying new, dangerous things. He loved magic, and he loved his brothers and sisters in his gang of misfits. He wanted to do good for them, the unfortunate maniacs, and only for them, so, he resorted to taking from and fooling the do-gooders of the Light, Water, and Nature clans to better his flight. Nothing delighted him more than seeing the looks of confusion, anger, and frustration on an Imperial’s face when he realized that his pockets were short a wallet or two. He more often than not used a precisely balanced combination of a slippery, silver tongue and many magical tricks of the hand to get what he wants.

He soon became known as a Master of Games. As his reputation became bolder, so did his heists. One day, he heard of a vault of the highest security that was filled with uncountable gems and gold. Though he had no need nor desire for such riches, the Spiral imagined the rush he would get by merely performing such a task. For months he studied the facility, a hat factory of all things, to get to know his way around, before the night of the execution where everything would go as planned...or so he thought. Adrienne has no memory of what transpired in the hatter’s factory. His closest accomplices found him the next morning in a puddle of mercurous nitrate, laughing hysterically at his own reflection in the liquid madness. It had changed his mind.

Whatever sanity and stability of mind that Adrienne the Spiral had before were totally erased. His swim in toxic mercury caused him to fall very ill. His lustrous red hide turned a sickly green, and he swam in and out of fevers and shaking fits for months. Doctors, surgeons, and apothecaries of the Shadow flight all turned him away, telling him he was incurable. He was out of gold, lost, alone, and dying in a strange part of Driftwood Drag. Until one day, a strange Pearlcatcher approached him. ForestGaze found the Spiral on the edge of death and brought him back to the clan, where he worked day and night to heal him. It was said that when his fever broke, the first thing Adrienne did was look in the mirror and laugh.

The toxins and contagions had left him scarred, yet he was delighted about that. No longer would he ever be compared to his siblings. He loved his green, it stood out so well against the Crimson. It reminded him every day that he different, very different, from the rest. He wore his green scales with pride. Crazy as it may seem, he truly differentiated himself from his siblings, his parents, and even other clanmates in mind and on his body now as well.

Adrienne found a home in his new clan, ever thankful to the Pearlcatcher that healed him, but what made him stay was the flight itself. The dragons of the Shadow Flight stole his heart, or at least what was left of it. The magic and the games were what he lived for, and he displayed his talents happily. Others like him, the dregs and criminals of society, came flocking to their ringleader who they’d begun to refer to as certifiably insane, or as he’d like to call it, mentally creative. He truly inspired them to carry on their work, being positively horrible and dastardly. And so it was that his life, and his work, started anew.
