Biography
Calcifer, Hand of the Meteor Hunter Informal Name: Cali Mate: none Previous Mates: Roden |
Calcifer found her way into the Clan of Singing Blood due to careful and insidious schemes of the mirror dragon, Matricide as she worked to remove the rival and ranking hunter Zeravica from the clan. Calcifer replaced Zera as a hunter, but Matricide was then the most senior and ranking hunter in the clan, having removed all of her rivals. Calcifer was a superb hunter and specialized in the largest of game. On occasion, she would coordinate with other hunters. She could use her fire magic to smoke out dens and flush the inhabitants where they would be chased and caught by a pack of mirror hunters employed by the clan. She would also sometimes work with Matricide by driving prey into her deadly snares and traps. Although it was initially only part of Matricide's trickery, Calcifer was, in the end, courted by Roden. They remained mates until he, almost inevitably, became bored with her. The fire dragon was incensed by the easy manner in which he dismissed her as a mate. It wasn't something that was a surprise to her, as she knew Roden's disposition, but that made it no less insulting. |
That was not the worst insult the clan offered her, for they betrayed her in another way as well. News had reached the Scarred Wasteland of the blooming conflict in the Ashfall Waste. Calcifer knew of the long struggles of her kin there, even though she was now far removed from it. She was, then, in favor of the revolutionaries. Few dragons in the plague clan had much concern for the conflict, though there was some trade between here and there, it was all very distant, and none of it was vital to their own survival and prosperity. However, the King of her clan had come to favor the Fire Industry's establishment and their Forgemasters. This was entirely because they had purchased his favor for a grand price. Calcifer could not stand to remain with the clan if such greed filled the hearts of the leaders, and she resolved then to depart. She wasn't sure if she would return to the Ashfall Waste, but she knew she would not remain with the Clan of Singing Blood. |
Of course, Calcifer could not know of any of the King's spies and hidden plans, and indeed, her outright disgust with her, and even her departure served him well, as she made quite a scene of it, and wrote extensively to her far-flung friends and allies of his apparent support of the Forgemasters. It was a shame to lose such a powerful hunter, but no matter what came of the conflict in the Ashfall Waste, the King would ensure that his clan would benefit from it. |
