  Teetering on the cusp of adulthood, Celal has already endured a lifetime of challenges. He was raised in the lowest slums of the nokta, where the only light to cut through the murky shadows was the faint orange glow through coal-stained lanterns, and the houses leaned and buckled into each other, as if bending beneath the city built atop its narrow alleyways. He is numb to the clutter and clamour of life in the gutter, the constant threat of danger lurking at his back.

He has a poor reputation even in the slums, for a cruel rumour circulated when he was a child that he was born from a family of shade-worshippers. He has been mocked and ridiculed for it ever since; some regard him with distrust, hatred, and even disgust, casting him aside and excluding him from their brigan society. It has forced him to withdraw, to build a thick skin, and as a result it is difficult to gain his trust, or coax him to open up. He plays his cards close to his chest, never letting a secret slip, and little is known about him even by his trusted allies. While he has a quiet, and often sombre demeanor, his sense of humour comes out around those he is very close to, and he makes for pleasant company when he feels at ease.
