VDiDxBR.png They had put Pardus on scout duty. Again. With sore wings he flew through the scraggy landscape looking for enemies that hadn't been seen in this area for ages. Knowing the rocks below by heart already, Pardus didn't even bother to pay attention to the surroundings anymore. He could tell anyway what was there: rocks, rocks and even more rocks. He could tell all the same what wasn't there: Harpies. This land had been empty for as long as he had to scout it. Why his clan still insisted for him to search for them every day remained a mystery. Part of him thought they were just trying to get rid of the only Coatl in their group. Such great cousins he had... Pardus would never understand how his parents could ever think it to be a good idea for him to stay with their Imperial relatives. Maybe they just tried to get rid of him too. But Pardus didn't think so. He more got the feeling they were using him as a spy. He wasn't quite sure which was worse. "What a life this is" he muttered to himself as he pressed on.
As the sun rose higher a slight breeze formed. Unusual for this time of the year. In the afternoon the breeze had developed into a steady wind, making it harder for Pardus to keep up his pace. All he wanted was to go back home and get his rest but he had to finish the job. As he finally neared the end of the trip his wings were more tired then ever. The wind kept still growing stronger and started to blow dust in his eyes. When he spotted the small dark figures on the horizon he was not sure if they were an illusion, created by his exhaustion. His sight was too blurred to make out their shape but something about them felt wrong. The way they moved, their size...
As hard as he tried to tell himself they were just birds, Pardus couldn't quite convince himself. In the end he left his path with an annoyed growl and flew towards the shapes. As he got closer his concerns were soon confirmed. They were indeed no birds... Once he was entirely sure he turned around hastily to get away before the harpies noticed him. Harpies! Actual live harpies! Impossible! And so many of them! Where did they come from? He had to warn his clan. If these creatures had actually settled here... Overwhelmed by his own thoughts the sudden gust of wind caught him completely unaware. He lost his balance and then he was falling. For a moment he was just surprised but soon panic took over. He started slapping his wings wildly but with more dust in his face he couldn't see where he was going. He felt the pain as he hit his left wing somewhere. He fought for altitude but his wing was beginning to trouble him. Too exhausted he couldn't keep up much longer and crashed into the ground before he even knew.
When Pardus finally woke up he found himself in a cave. A few rays of orange sunlight peaked through the entrance. How did he get here? He tried to stand up but his legs couldn't carry his weight. To his great surprise he noticed several pieces of cloth wrapped around his forelegs. Where did those come from? Wondering what happened he suddenly remembered the pain. It hit him hard and almost knocked him out. His left wing was a complete mess and he had scratches everywhere. Did he really fall? He had to lay down and rest to cope with the pain and his returning memories. The light grew brighter and Pardus found the strength to look around. Next to him he discovered a clay bowl filled with water and another filled with meat. He had seen one of his clanmates eat some once, when their seafood supply went too low. Pardus drank the water but couldn't bring himself to eat.

hhqqKnN.png paragraph
A scraping sound announced the arrival of his savior. Pardus was more than surprised to see a harpy appear in the entrance instead. He had no idea harpies could grow so large. Baring his teeth he prayed he looked only half as ridiculous as he felt but the harpy was not exactly impressed. Instead it kept approaching him. Pardus roared as loud and scary as he managed but the harpy took no notice at all. When it reached him Pardus was sure he was done for but then the beast began checking his (Verband)! It tried talking to him but he couldn't understand most of the words. Neither did it understand Pardus' answers. Still, as strange as the situation was, it seemed to care for him. Could this harpy be his savior? What kind of sense did that make? Weren't these creatures supposed to be evil enemies?
Maybe this one was an exception. Every day the harpy returned to look after him and bring fresh water. Soon Pardus began to understand her speech and learned her name: Panthera. She seemed to be an outside in her flock, being the only individual who couldn't fly. Apparently she had no problems making up for it though. Perhaps that was the reason she showed so much interest in his broken wing. While she made sure it would heal properly she also closely studied the anatomy. Once Pardus even caught her taking notes. At first it made him feel somewhat uncomfortable but after a while he didn't mind. He figured Panthera just wanted to learn how to fly.
