______ When the clouds accumulate in the electrified sky and Stormcatcher's roars echo in the vast deserted plains like flashes of lightning against the ground, it's common to say a Lightning creature is born. This legend is told across the Shifting Expanse, narrated by the fire or to little dragons before sleep. It's accompanied by this myth that Summit was raised, living with the rest of the brood in an underground energy production factory. Only able to hear the thunder through the stone walls, she began dreaming of a life outside, where she could fully contemplate the magnificence of the lightning constantly striking her native lands.

______ Working day and night to produce the electricity required to feed Stormcatcher's entire territory, the young Mirror became weary of this dirty work she was accomplishing in the company of her brothers and sisters. Every dragons in the complex where she worked and lived were born here, and had never seen anything but the factory's buzzing machines. Massive Ridgebacks sometimes patrolled the ranks, making sure everyone was doing their job perfectly. One evening, exhausted, Summit collapsed on the pile of cables she used as a bunk, abandoning herself to inaccessible dreams. As she drifted off to sleep, she heard someone whisper her name. Opening one of her four eyes, she noticed another worker, nudging her flank in an attempt to wake her up. She explained that this energy factory was not approved by Stormcatcher, and that all the laborers worked under supervision of traitors, who sold the batteries to enemy Flights. The dragon murmuring those words was old, and probably here since her hatching. She pointed out that she had been preparing an escape for decades and, with the help of other workers, had deactivated the surveillance system.

______ The big getaway took place during a delivery of new transmission cables, forcing the Ridgebacks to open the large doors of the warehouse, which lead to the surface. Summit was anxious at the idea of fleeing the only place she had ever known, and knew that is she was to fail, the factory's supervisors could very well make her disappear, and no one will ever find her. The Mirror prepared for several hours, waiting for the time to escape this cursed place. By nightfall, a small group of workers who worked in the complex joined the other employees in the huge warehouse, full of electronic equipment and metal crates, while pretending to do an inventory, a notebook and a pen in their paws. The goods were about to arrive, and a black and grey Ridgeback yelled to the laborers to return to their respective annexes. While all the dragons truned around and walked away, grunting with fatigue and pain, Summit and her team hid in the ventilation ducts, waiting for the perfect moment to run toward the exit. Suddenly, the large doors creaked on their hinges and opened, letting the daylight enter the dull and dirty storage room. They didn't have to worry about being spotted in their hiding place, thanks to the earlier sabotage of the cameras. They were all dazzled by the sight that stood before their eyes. The real world was within their reach, they could finally embrace their new life and forget the sinister past.

______ An old Fae rushed into the air, shouting to the others to do the same before the Ridgeback guards notice them. Deploying their sore wings, they all took flight under the panicked howls of their former jailers, fearing their affairs would be revealed to the entire world. When they were gone far enough from the hell they had known, they landed on a high plateau, a common relief in the Shifting Expanse, and hugged each other in a final embrace as a sign of farewell. Summit could feel tears come to her eyes, because of the happiness of being free at last, but also because of the sadness at the idea of leaving the friends she has always known. They all promised to meet again, and, with one last look to the small group, Summit launched herself in a random direction, not knowing anything about the land that surrounded her.
