Mayla came to live with the Edge of the Wyld Clan when her former clan sent her to help out the fledgeling Edge of the Wyld Clan before it grew to its current size. When Aori first showed up at the entrance to the caverns she despaired of ever catching his attention in her unwieldy form of a Snapper. When she approached one of the enchanted stones at the edge of the Wyldwood and made a wish, she awakened the next day with a pile of bamboo next to her and a note instructing her to put the bamboo on. After she pulled on the bamboo, her form shifted and she took on the shape of a Coatl. It is said that if she ever takes off the bamboo, she'll revert to her old self and Mayla can't stand the idea of that so she wears it always.
