ELDER
"I am eternally present, here and everywhere, now and always."

“[...] Magic is layered throughout the world, from the easily accessible and evident elemental powers bestowed upon the world by The Eleven, to the non-elemental sorcery tapped into by Beast Clans and healers that is responsible for matters of mystical restoration, dampening of enemy abilities, and the absorption of mana from the environment through meditation. Beneath this we begin to tread into unaligned black magics, such as necromancy, hexes, and blood magic. Despite the rather vile implications of such magic, such sorcery has become common in modern battle magic, used primarily by front-line defenders to replenish their stamina through the consumption of flesh and blood of enemy forces.
“However, if you dig deeper into the magical layering of Sornieth, beneath even the most repulsive of death magics, you will find something purer and far more terrifying. The common form we see it in is through polymorph scrolls and select vials of potions, all of which are incredibly difficult to manufacture and must be cast by proxy, as the magic is strong enough to destroy the caster. Even with these minor spells that change something as small as eye color, the force of the magical fallout is enough to kill. We, as dragons, have to utilize inanimate objects to make use of this sorcery and even then we can only control it enough to make superficial changes, many of which we cannot control the outcome of and some of which we cannot begin to replicate. “The truth is, this magic has limitless potential. The bottom layer, upon which all other magic has developed, is the sort of sorcery that would allow one to control reality. To bend time, to shift the laws of nature, to be whatever and whoever they wanted to be. Controlling time, cheating death, transcending physical form, becoming as the gods who created this world and, in many ways, surpassing them. If a dragon could discover enough about this forbidden, ancient, and primal energy to control it as The Eleven did when they formed the very world--or when it formed The Eleven itself--then that dragon, provided he lived, could control the very fabric of Sornieth. “What a shame we have wasted it on something as petty as a prettier coat of scales.[...]”

"When he came to the canyon, I knew it was trouble. Kain told us as much, but you outsiders didn't listen. Too caught up in your idiotic quarrels to see the true danger until it was breathing down our neck. And now the entirety of The Council is destroyed. Kain is dead. My brothers, fallen. The object of your ire, your mutual obsession, is the one who wound up saving us in the end.
"Pathetic. The lot of you. More so because I know, deep down in the cavern wherein he was trapped, that he yet breathes. Sustained by magics most foul, I would reckon, waiting for the day he can return to the surface and finish what he began. Kain told me much before his destruction, and the lesson that sticks with me most is that Elder is nigh immortal... and very persistent." |
