Tale from a nameless ruin

In the desert wastes of Dragonhome, there is a shallow basin where the soil is always cold to the touch. Where even beneath the eye of the blazing sun, the earth stays as cool as green grass in the shade.

It is, however, during the dark hours that the valley shows its true face: travellers who come across the valley at night tell tales of a field of ice crystals, shining like white flowers in the moonlight. But there are no flowers, only ice, because no living thing can exist in such a place.

It was once a fertile plain that laid the foundation for groves of figs, olives, and pomegranates. A ring of stone houses encircled the basin, a village of longnecks that depended on the garden for their survival.

Once, as the sun passed beneath a horizon, a dragon of ice passed through the village. She came from the south, her sight set on the garden. She could not be swayed from her destination and neither spears nor fire deterred her. Uncaring of their cries and pleas, she laid down to rest in the fields they were so proud of, and through that night she froze everything to the core.
Since that night, nothing was ever able to grow back.

With their livelihood gone, the village was abandoned, its inhabitants driven out into the desert in search of a new home.

Where the dragon went, none can say. She was gone before the sun rose.
