Hatchling Story by SilverOtter
The Imperial hatched without knowing she had a brother. Her mother didn't say anything to her. She cooed and cried happily for the female Imperial as Nott spoiled her immensely. Nott was trying to drown out the guilt of abandoning her son by making sure Aisling was well taken care of for the time being.

Freyr was not happy in the slightest. This dragon-ling was nothing special to him. She didn't inherit his Shade touched spirit. He left in anger. Nott winced before she curled around her only child that was left with her. She nuzzled and cleaned the baby Imperial. Though, she blinked as it seemed to have gotten colder near them. She shivered before noticing wisps and mists out of the corner of her eyes. She looked at her baby to notice that the dragon-ling had opened her eyes. Though, she wasn't looking at her mother, she was looking at the wisps. Her daughter should have not seen such things until she was much older.

"You have the power of sight, don't you?" she whispered with a big smile on her snout. Her daughter was special. She was a seer. One that could see things others could not see, and Aisling would learn to predict the future. She couldn't wait to tell Freyr. The female Imperial moved as her daughter cuddled closer to her as she closed her eyes. The dragon-ling wasn't scared that there were unknown things floating around them. Her mother was safe and powerful. She could see such a thing.

A Nice Day Out by imginate
They haven’t had the time to spend time with each other recently.

It was no surprise, of course; there had been more issues popping up at the borders of their clan, and as the leader of the guards, it was only natural that Kenway would have to take care of them personally. As such, she hadn’t been able to meet up with Aisling as often as she would’ve liked to.

She knew Aisling understood, and was fine with the brief moments they managed to get with each other in between Kenway’s duties, but the Skydancer couldn’t help but feel guilty for it.

That was why, the moment she’d managed to get an entire day off, she immediately set to making preparations for said day. There was still a full week before she’d be able to take a day off, so that left her with more than enough time to make sure she and Aisling had a good time together.

“Really?” Aisling’s eyes sparkled upon hearing about it.

“Really,” Kenway nodded.

“That’s great!” Aisling cheered, reaching out to nuzzle her cheek and making her blush. “I’ll be sure to clear my schedule for the day too, then! Do you want me to help with the preparations? You’re pretty busy these days, so…”

“No,” Kenway quickly refused. “I want… I want to surprise you. It’s my fault that we haven't been able to spend time with each other anyway.”

At those words, Aisling frowned, reaching out to pinch her cheek. Both of them knew it didn’t hurt, but she liked to pretend otherwise.

“I’ve told you already,” Aisling said exasperatedly. “Whatever’s happening at the borders isn’t your fault. You have a duty to our clan, after all. I can wait out a few weeks if it means you’re keeping our clan safe.”

“I know, but still…” Kenway sighed. “I really want this to be a surprise for you.”

Aisling’s gaze softened. “Alright, love,” her smile widened. “I hope everything works out on your end, then.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure of it,” Kenway assured, blushing faintly.

That was a week ago.

Kenway woke up, instinctively moving to begin heading to do her duties, when she remembered what day it was. With a widening smile and a glance to her still-sleeping mate, she quietly left to make some last-minute preparations.

When she came back, Aisling was already in the process of making breakfast, yawning occasionally.

“Morning, Ais,” Kenway murmured, slipping up behind her to kiss her cheek. Aisling giggled.

“Morning, love,” she chirped, nuzzling into her fur. “Where’s my surprise?”

“I’ll show you once we finish eating,” Kenway said, subtle excitement in her tone. She really did hope that Aisling loved her surprises; she made do with what she could, since she did have to return to her duties tomorrow.

“I can’t wait,” Aisling smiled brightly. “I’m sure I’ll like it, anyway. I like everything you do for me.”

Kenway flushed. “Aisling, you can’t just say that so easily.”

“Why not? Can’t I let my mate know that

“Alright, alright, let’s just eat first,” Kenway said, flustered. “Then… then you can see your surprises.”

After eating, Kenway led Aisling out.Throughout the day, she took her on many different ‘mini-dates’. They had a picnic beside a river, sitting under a tree reading together as they fed each other. Later, Kenway made a flower crown for her as they were laying on a field of flowers and grass, placing it gently on her mate’s head as she turned pink. Aisling did try to make a flower crown for Kenway too, but after a few lopsided flower crowns that she deemed ‘not good enough’, she decided to just place some flowers into Kenway’s hair instead. After that, they played around in the river for a while, before Aisling took a nap, as Kenway narrated a story quietly.

When night fell, Kenway got up, and nudged Aisling awake. Aisling yawned, even as she was tugged to follow along, her flower crown lopsided.

“Where are we going?” Aisling asked, reaching out to tuck the flowers that were about to fall out of Kenway’s hair back in.

Kenway only smiled at her gently. “You’ll find out soon.”

It had taken her three days to set all of it up. During the breaks between missions, she worked to build a platform on a tree, just big and steady enough to fit the two of them comfortably. It was high enough that they would be able to stargaze nicely, with soft pillows and blankets already prepared.

She did have to call in a few favours from her subordinates and friends, but it was all worth it for the happy gasp that Aisling had let out upon seeing it.

“I love it!” Aisling exclaimed, eyes shining. “It’s- wow! It’s amazing! You’ve really outdone yourself, love.”

“I’m glad you like it,” Kenway replied softly, gently pushing her forwards. “Come on, didn’t you say you wanted to teach me about the stars.”

“That was ages ago!” Aisling laughed, settling down on some of the pillows as Kenway nestled up next to her. “You still remember?”

“I remember everything you say.”

“Aww, love, you’re making me blush,” Aisling cooed. Her bright smile softened. “Seriously, though, thank you. I really enjoyed our time today.”

“It was no problem,” Kenway murmured. She glanced upwards, smiling inwardly at the great view they were able to get of the night sky. “What about that one, Ais?”

Kenway listened attentively to Aisling’s rambling. It was nice to see Aisling like this; excited, enthusiastic and happy. She tried to remember everything that Aisling talked about, wanting to cherish these memories and this experience for as long as she could.

Eventually, though, Aisling grew tired, relaxing against Kenway, her sentence about a star drifting off.

“This is nice,” Aisling murmured sleepily, and Kenway could tell she would fall asleep soon. It seemed like Aisling would have to tell her about the star another day.

Kenway smiled fondly, and shifted to let Aisling lean against her more comfortably. “Would you want to do this again, then?”

“Mhm,” Aisling mumbled, already drifting to sleep. “Love you.”

“Love you too,” Kenway replied gently, as Aisling fell asleep.

After a while of simply laying next to Aisling, Kenway slowly shifted them into a nicer position, where she was snuggled up to Aisling. Instinctively, the sleeping Imperial curled her tail over her, and Kenway smiled gently at the movement.

Underneath the twinkling stars, with a last, quiet yawn, she fell asleep too.
