Questions from Ask A Dragon!

From @SketchyRawr on September 3, 2020
Mosten, do you have any interesting stories of some hatchlings you've taken care of in the past?
The older dragon hummed thoughtfully at your question, the tiny piebald paint dragon by his side lifting her head to look at him.
"Ganmpa, you have story?" Her dark eyes searched his, her feet shuffling beneath herself in anticipation. Mosten nodded.
"I, of course, have many stories about the hatchings I've cared for over the years. Something quite amusing happened more recently, however. When Scretala was hardly bigger than this little one." He ruffled Laethina's head crest with his nose, smiling at her giggle. "Young Scretala, a feisty little dragon, that must was obvious. A natural born warrior, she wanted to fight and hunt the moment she knew what it was. One day, as a large majority of our fighters were leaving to fight off a Beast Clan, Scretala managed to tag along unnoticed. We later learned that Talivana--"
"Tha's my big sister!" Laethina leapt to her feet at the recognizable character in her grandpa's tale. Mosten nodded down at her.
"Talivana is your sister, yes. And a clever little dragon she was. But Laethina, please don't interrupt." He gestured for her to sit back down, and she whispered an apology, settling down for the rest of the story. "Scretala had snuck herself into one of the other ridgeback's supply bags, along with some oversized armor. Talivana stayed in the lair, covering for her friend's disappearance. None of the fighters noticed Scretala until that evening when they set up camp. No one here at home knew she was missing until Wesmona returned her later than evening."
"And now she's super strong!" Little Laethina cheered, and Mosten couldn't help an amused chuckle.
"That she is. And I thank you both for listening to my story, and thank you for asking me!"

Heya, Mosten! Do you ever end up taking care of too many hatchlings to handle? I know you love them, but they can be a bit much sometimes, haha ^.^
The elder wildclaw tilted his head down, looking at you over his glasses before smiling.
"Well hey there, kiddo! That's a very interesting question. Now, hatchling production has decreased a lot since I first joined the clan. Making room for that many kids cost a lot of treasure, let me tell you." He leaned in close, shielding the far side of his face with his wing. "I'm still waiting for great-grandchildren." He leaned back, settling himself on the floor. "But to properly answer your question, I don't think I've ever felt overwhelmed by our hatchling numbers, regardless of how troublesome they can be. Of course, I'm not the only one that takes care of them. The hatchling's parent are responsible for them unless they're off doing other things for the clan or themselves. That's when us select few take care of them. So I'm more of a hatchling sitter. Thank you for asking!"
