I can hear them from here, their cold bodies laying on the shifting grounds as they watch us retreat from afar. Our march is a solemn song; each step a hoarse melody. My daughter observes me from a distance with red eyes narrowed in hate. Her distaste for me rings loud and the others stare at the two of us in pity. Where had it gone so wrong? Our past connection rings so loud, yet I fail to understand why she feels this way. The golden wreath being placed on my head as I staked my blade into the rugged earth, the tingling of my heart as I first brought Mardic and Gotham under my wing, the silver cross pointed at my heart as it spread burning ice throughout my body. Does the pretense of having power over the throne appease her to this point? |
