B I O G R A P H Y

Koi grew up in The Clan of Growing Flames, loyal and proud until she got older. Shiro, a handsome, young Pearlcatcher like herself, had traveled to the Trading Post. They met while bargaining at Swip’s Swap Stand, and their friendship blossomed instantaneously. Shiro asked if Koi wanted to meet at night in the Carrion Canyon on the edge of The Sunbeam Ruins. Koi didn’t mean any harm by it, but the visits continued. She found herself hungering to see him more, to hear his soft voice and feel his cool, white scales against her’s. Shiro wanted her to move into his Clan, and Koi the same.

One night, Koi and Shiro were arguing over where to make the nest they were planning for and which Clan the hatchlings would grow in. Little did they know, another Pearlcatcher was watching from the solitude of the deep shadows. Shiro was about to commit to leaving his Clan, when the stranger lept from behind a massive boulder, screaming at Shiro to remember his loyalties. The way the tan dragon’s chrome visionaries sparkled as she said his name, heartbroken love poured into every syllable. Koi didn’t like it. The diminutive dragon with bright green wings was going to ruin her life and steal Shiro away from her. She had to stop her. She had to end her. Koi sprang with a roar of rage and seized the small dragon’s soft throat. The stranger blasted her back with her wave of powerful light magic. The battle raged on for another minute, mage against mage. Finally Koi had weakened the strang spy enough to deal the final blow. She inhaled deeply, summoning her most powerful fire magic and directed it at her enemy and releasing. “Ayda!” Shiro roared as he flung himself in front of the vibrant dragon, creating a shield of pure magic energy before him. Fine them. If he loved this other dragon more, she would leave. She shot one last look at the dragon she thought she loved and took flight, a steady flow the tears trickling from her amber orbs as she flew back to the Lair. “Ayda,” she hissed, the name bitter on her tongue, “Ayda,”.

Koi reached the steaming Lair by sunrise. A cerulean outline of a dragon stood waiting for her, flocculent fur blowing in the heated breeze. Relief painted of his face as she landed. He rushed forward and threw his warm wings around her. Koi exhaled. The tears came again, bitter, heartbroken. She explained everything, Shiro, the duel, why she was absent all these nights. Fire listened, his comforting wings still draped over her. From that moment, Koi’s love grew for the bright blue Tundra. Finally, she took him as her mate, and the bitterness shrunk. She lived her life in peace, though she couldn’t help wondering...what if?
