Lair Matriarch

B I O G R A P H Y

There is no doubt that Somnus is the matriarch of her clan, none at all. The way she carries herself alone is enough to draw notice and respect alike, and her devotion only proves that she has filled the role of leader with her entire being. To Somnus, Clan Superblox is everything, and she will not let them down. Maybe she misses traveling a little, if she's honest. Before the foundation of the clan, she was a free spirit, roaming Sornieth with nothing but the wind under her wings. There's still so much to see in the world, but with her duties as matriarch ever-present, she cannot wander off on a whim anymore. Even a vacation may be a little too much to ask when there is still so much work to be done to ensure the prosperity of Superblox.

But ultimately, Somnus doesn't mind. She loves her clan with her whole heart. Their problems are her problems, and she feels deeply for any trouble the dragons under her care find themselves in. Swordbinder, her mate, says she's too soft, but he says it with a sparkle in his eye that means his walls have come down for just a moment, as they do for Somnus and Somnus alone. She loves his quiet teasing, the brief break in his stoic facade; it's his way of showing how much he loves and trusts her, allowing her to see the parts of him that are vulnerable or uncharacteristic of a noble leader. She knows they are there always, but it is a relief to see them for herself sometimes.

B I O G R A P H Y

Swordbinder may be right, though, even if he is teasing. Somnus is soft-hearted, at least compared to his cool, composed rule, and when she isn't at his side, she can often be found with the other dragons in her clan, listening to their troubles or helping them with whatever task is at hand. She is one with her people, not above them, and she shares in their both their struggles and triumphs without hesitation. Sometimes, she even babysits the hatchlings, despite not having any particular fondness for children. They love her nonetheless, though, probably because of her compassion and patience, and once she has a cadre hatchlings for the day, they won't leave her alone.

At least they ask smart questions, though, smarter than most adults would ask. She can appreciate that, and enjoys indulging the young ones' curiosity. Still, she hopes there will be a full time nest minder someday soon. Hatchlings are a lot to handle on top of her matriarchal duties, and she would much rather adopt a single familiar for life than a nest full of children each week. Of course, she has her eyes on some of the more exotic familiars, much to Swordbinder's chagrin; an exotic familiar could be as demanding as a hatchling if not more so, but Somnus' heart is set on it. She'll learn one day. Or maybe not. Only time will tell.

While she takes her role as matriarch very seriously, she's a lot softer & more lenient
She's not very fond of kids but hatchlings just feel drawn to her

Often sympathizes with dragons she has never met before
Wants to travel but remains glued in the same spot due to her duties, but she doesn't complain

She wants a pet, but doesn't know what kind, however, she does know that she wants something exotic, which could set up for disaster if she's not careful
