Cernunnos
___________________________He/Him

tumblr_nr4pdbmimT1scno6po10_400.png

Cernunnos was adept in the forest from a young age, using the light to camouflage himself as effectively as a chamelion. His origins were always unknown, even to himself; the forest was his home since a hatchling, although the circumstances of his arrival in Nature have been speculated as a clan who couldn't care for him, or the stealing of hatchlings by the Beastclans in Eastern Sornieth.

He was an elderly dragon, knowing Tuolos from the early days in the Labyrinth, growing with the clan like an ancient tree. As a young dragon, he was a scout, able to move through the forest without being seen, cloaked by his magic as a trick of the light. As an older dragon, he became a tactician, a general on the field with the wisdom, authority and understanding for success.

Although the Dusk Clan advocated peace, in the later years there was the growing need to defend against expanding neighbours, beastclans, and aggressors. Cernnunos trained as a general, revered as an elder enough to be followed on the battlefield.

Knowing Tuolos since the Ascendant himself was a young dragon, Cernnunos was a core member of the clan, originally scouting for food and territory, and eventually for enemies and their lairs - Tuolos used this information to move the Dusk Clan to safer grounds, a decision to cause dissent in the followers of Cavern.

Cernnunos' influence drew the following back to the Ascendants, preventing a civil war much earlier than Cavern's betrayal. His steadfast loyalty and wisdom in his older age led him to become their Advisor after Lachtan made the journey to the Great Tree, relying as much - if not more - on his advice as their Seer's. After Cavern's betrayal and the Ascendants' death, Cernnunos was the dragon to mourn the longest for his friends.

Cavern's betrayal horrified Cernnunos, a dragon true to his leaders, and in the fight for the lair he fought viciously. When the battle was lost he declared separation from the self-declared Ascendant, leading the survivors and Mika to the grove of the Root Well. The counterattack was met with his own reluctance, countered by Mika's fury to avenge her mate. Loyal to his Ascendant, Cernnunos led and commanded the battle.

On Mika's disappearance, Cernnunos mourned, knowing she had left for her home with the Shadowbinder, to rest at last. He and Crystalfire took quiet leadership of the clan, running the hunts and border patrols, and finally moving the lair to the boughs of the great Behemoth, in memory of Tuolos and his vision. Cernnunos and Crystalfire were met with no resistance, and grew a close bond through their duties.

As territory became more competitive, Cernnunos and Crystalfire allowed for the training of warriors, defending their border with their skills as generals. As Redwing and her siblings hatched and grew to gain power, Cernnunos willingly stepped aside for them, hoping for the leadership that had once been given by the Ascendants of the Dusk Clan. When Redwing showed her true colours, however, Cernnunos began to waylay her orders and prepare for the betrayal he had regretted from Cavern.

When Centurion decided to storm the Plague lair that had stolen Cave, Cernnunos led the battle, backed up by Crystalfire. As Redwing was diving on an unsuspecting bogsneak, Cernnunos put himself in between, taking the killing blow. His body left as a traitor in the Scarred Wasteland, Cernnunos was buried by Crystalfire, and a single flower grew over his grave.
