______Thunder cracked viciously in a backdrop of unsettled roars, grumbles, and the endless hiss of the heavy rain. No eyes probed the night, no ear could make out anything but the sounds of the storm lashing the heavy forests around every lair. The storm was ferocious, and it seemed to only grow more powerful as time passed. Dragons of every sort came together in the most secure parts of their lair as the winds gained a keening edge and the deep groaning of tortured timber sounded nearby. Hatchlings trembled and keened and warbled their distress, and the elder dragons took charge as their mothers laid a fire to warm and dry the air.

______In the shifting shadows, a dragon stood, gleaming eyes catching others around the fire. He spoke slowly, his deep, rhythmic voice catching and keeping attention as he told the tale of the faerie King Oberon and how his crown was stolen by the Unseelie fae and hidden in the Kingdom of Winter in hopes of weakening his power over Summerhold and winning the war that had been churning between the two sides eternally.

______Oberon smiled when Puck returned, melting out of the shadows of the Summer Hall to kneel before the Golden Throne. 'Tell me, my faithful servant, where have the fell fae hidden my crown?'

______'The crown is hidden deep within the Winter Fortress, buried in a block of unmelting ice, guarded by four fierce guardians, my Lord and King. You cannot walk into that place and recover it without your army!'

______Gasps went up around the Hall at these tidings, but the mighty Oberon merely smiled slightly. Yes, without his crown many of his legendary powers were diminished, and if he rushed brashly into the Winter territory he would likely never walk again on the lush, green fields of his home, but he knew something that no one other than his proud Queen did. 'Fear not, brave and loyal Puck. You have brought me great comfort to know that my foe will suffer greatly for their mistake.' The faerie at his feet looked up in shock, but the enigmatic King said no more, his dark eyes shining in the gleaming light of the Hall.

______That night, Oberon stalked slowly into a small chamber deeply set into the stone below the Summer Hall. No one other than the chosen monarch could find this place or enter, and he slid to the side of the raised, water filled pool that slowly spilled living waters into his domain. From here he could see all of the Summerhold, could travel to even the furthest corner with a thought, could tend to the saplings and ease the blooming of the sweet flowers with ease. From here, he could effect the heart of any of his sworn. And from here he could bring back anything that was his. He could have pulled back his crown once he found it missing, but realized that this could be an opportunity like he had never been given. Oberon focused on the still water, allowing it to show him what he wished to see. His crown.

______Oberon felt the tie of the simple band of flowers and smiled as he willed some of his diminished power into it. He could feel it start to glow, and he poured more power into the bond. Heat would be pouring from the wreath, and it would break the enchanted ice. Closing his eyes, the King pushed all of his anger and fury down towards the Unseelie. They would know his wrath over this!

______Out of breath but satisfied, King Oberon gazed into the pool before summoning his crown to him. The flutter of wings and a soft splash preceded the arrival, and the mighty faerie sagged with relief as he fished the wreath out before placing it upon his head. Feeling his power return, Oberon straightened and returned to the quiet of the Summerhold at rest.

______The hatchlings were tucked in, and despite the din of the storm, fell into bright dreams of summer fields and faeries. The elder dragon smiled and slid into the deeper shadows, disappearing from sight with the slightest sound of the rustle of wings.

______And finally the storm broke.
