“Huh,” said Bearcharger looking at his newly-hatched daughter. “That’s… unexpected.”
“I don’t understand. How did that happen?” Blossom pawed at the giggling child and frowned. “I thought it was impossible to be a different element from the nest you hatched in!”
“Well, it should be…” Fade blinked, confused. “Maybe that’s the result of the Light’s dominance marathon? After all, no one else has managed to win three times in a row, could it be that their magic oversaturated the nest?”
“I can’t say anything for certain either,” Hinoki carefully took the tiny child into his enormous paws, lightly poked here and there ignoring squirming and giggling, and gave her back to the bemused parents. “Though I don’t see anything wrong with her – apart from being born Light in an Earth nest, she seems a perfectly healthy and normal baby.”
“Awesome, another freak in our lair,” Ricochet scoffed and went away, promptly losing interest in the new kid. Everyone ignored his comment, as usual.
Rhyim put her hand on little Shansa’s head, and the child calmed down immediately, looking a bit drowsy and blinking slowly and sleepily.
“I will ask around to see if something like that happened in other clans,” she murmured, pensive. “But I don’t feel that it’s anything malicious, either, and the healer says she is fine, so I believe we should let it be.”
And so they did. After some time, while sadly still not having found the reason for such change, everyone got used to the phenomenon and stopped noticing the unusual brightness of Shansa’s eyes.
...Right up until she cast her first spell.
