It’s hard being the leader.

From her perch amongst the seabirds, Zido gazed out across the Tsunami Flats. The beach was warm and still again, after a few days of violent storms. The rust-colored guardian watched her family splash noisily in the tide pools. They were looking for starfish, she knew; it seemed to her like no one loved starfish more than her own clan. The newly familiar urge to protect them washed over her, and with a contented smile Zido slowly clambered down the rocks to join them. Her mate, Argonaut, called to her as she made her way down.
“Come look! We found a red one the size of my head!”
Argonaut held up the offending creature while their children clambered onto his shoulders, trying to grab it from his claws.

A few miles down the beach, the mouth of the Shoredeep Presage gaped, waiting to swallow the next seer that would discover the dark secret it held. It wasn’t disappointed— water dragons of every breed and color rushed in and out of the cave faster than the tide. Wings and tails pushed past each other roughly, stirring up the waves and sending flurries of bubbles all around with each kick. Slowly, grunted and whispered by seers squeezing past, a message followed the bubbles as they floated to the surface. Ear to mouth, mouth to ear. The tide was rushing in and so was fear. Fear sank it's dark and gnarled roots deep into the Presage, deep into the caves empty of prophecy. The stream of dragons entering became a twice-thick crowd of dragons exiting. The tendrils of fear pushed them out of Presage and they were ever so happy to oblige. No one wanted to be in the sea now; it wasn’t safe.
The Tidelord was gone.

The more the bad news spread, the darker the days seemed to get. Roaming gangs had begun to capitalize on the mass hysteria, and communities crumbled easier than rotted wood. Pirate networks sunk in their roots like mangroves; bounties were placed on anyone who threatened their growing power. Zido did her best to keep her clan together, but her once-loyal neighbors fled with fear thrumming in their chests. With heavy hearts and even heavier talons, Zido and Argonaut had no choice but to move. They fought the inclement weather and raiding parties, the looming hurricane and the specter of death.
Rebuilding what they once had was not going to be easy.
