From his youth, Peklenc was fascinated by all sentient non-dragon life around him. Namely, the prey. Born on the edge of Fire and Water, he spent his early life among shallow reefs. There, he learned the schooling patterns of various species of fish, mimicking the movements of entire schools with his growing body perfectly to the point where he became unable to walk normally on land. With a subtle, fluid body language that would better suit a spiral than a coatl, Peklenc found himself more and more welcomed by the fish of the Thousand Currents, many of whom would later meet their ends as his dinner. As the hunts became easier and easier, however, Peklenc felt guiltier and guiltier. He liked many of the fish that he befriended - as non-edibles, even! It didn't help that his affinity to them was starting to make it possible for him to actually understand fish speech.

Torn by the idea that his friends were also his natural and only prey, Peklenc took to consuming only aggressive fish that threatened the schools he had grown up with, satisfying his morals but not his belly. Eventually, driven by hunger, he fled the shores of the Thousand Currents and retreated deep into the Ashfall Waste. Forcing himself to consume the land creatures and plants there made him feel like he was gorging himself on ash until, by a stroke of luck, he found himself in the company of a traveling ridgeback. To his amazement, she was a fisherman not unlike himself, who also valued the company of aquatic friends. The difference was that she sated herself on lava fish - fish that she had bred specifically to live in the hottest of liquid rock. They were both her pride and her food source and Peklenc discovered that the lava fish were so foreign to him that he was unable to distinguish anything at all about them.

Delighted at the lack of possible communication, Peklenc saw a way to remain a friend towards aquatic fish while satisfying his hunger. When the ridgeback Tamidu moved to Dragonhome, he went with her as an assistant and helped her found The Original Lava Fishery.
