"Insert your dragon's quote here." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ ChocolateCherry fell in step slightly behind Merlot as they walked further into the arena courtyard. This was her first time accompanying the Imperial after her months of strenuous training. Most of the recruits back home called her life “cushioned”. Half of them wouldn’t have the guts to pin another recruit in sparing—let alone, take a life. The fancy dinners and social gatherings were all for show. You've seen her? The red and white dragon, like a red flash in the corner of your vision? Friend, either you won't remember her soon, or you won't remember ANYTHING soon. Hushed whispers came from behind her as they echoed off the concave walls. She glanced behind her to see the start of a caravan arriving. “Merlot?” He stayed her from moving forward with his sword sheath. She looked at him confused, then noticed his head bowed in respect toward the main part of the oncoming caravan. ChocolateCherry instantly ducked her chin against her chest. “That is your prime target today, Cocoa,” Merlot’s low rumbled whisper tickled her ear. “Her name is CherryPop. She is ruthless when it comes to newcomers.” It took a full five minutes of staring at the ground before Merlot nudged her forward with his sheath. The arena slowly normalized to its regular hum of activity. ChocolateCherry let out a loud sigh, causing Merlot to glance back with an arched eyebrow. She flashed him an embarrassed grin. The tension in the air as that caravan passed made her forget to breathe. It smelled of death. She swallowed around a nervous lump forming in her throat. “Here we are.” Merlot pushes open the oak door, as ChocolateCherry peeked her head around the other oak door. The room was amazing. The whole room was lit with glass orbs full of glowing bugs. There were a rainbow of plushy cushions—EVERYWHERE. Her eyes brighten as she pranced into the room, then belly flopped into a big magenta cushion that instantly swallowed half her body. Her eyes widened as the tufted end of her tail flopped about in horror. The door closed as she heard Merlot’s loud sigh, “Just roll.” ChocolateCherry froze for a moment then shifted her weight to one side. The cushion released her onto the elaborate rug. She blinked in surprise then popped up from the ground. She shook off the dust clinging to her fur. Bad idea... Her whole self poofed out like a marshmallow. Merlot was taken back by the sudden cloud of dust, and in the middle was a rounded ball of red fur with a teeny bit of snout sticking out from the front. His stared wide-eyed at this, then was brought back as ChocolateCherry loudly blew some of her fur from off her eyes. His lips quivered, then he whole face crackled into a wide smile. She never saw him genuinely smile before. His emerald eyes sparkled when he smiled. “I—forgot to warn you about the static.”
