Valaraukar

“It was dark out. In the frigid wastelands of his icy home, it got dark fast, so they all had to cope with the small amounts of daylight they got. It also meant that Valaraukar could do what was wired into his soul without disturbance, since apart from the guards that regularly patrolled their territory, most of the clan slept an hour or two after night fell. He never slept at the same time as his friends anyway, so it was expected that he didn’t go and join them when they decided to curl up in their fur-lined caves.

Silence met him as he crept into the cave, immediately sensing his clanmates and their dreams. Valaraukar monitored their thoughts to detect every shift in their mental stories, smiling at the sight of one of them appearing to be chasing a squirrel up a frozen tree. Clearly, someone was hungry. He stayed vigilant, sitting up and alert to any changes, until it happened.

His soul careened forward toward a sleeping Guardian a few metres to his left, dragging him along with it. Blinking rapidly, he focused on the dream his friend was having, noticing immediately that it was warping into what had alerted his soul.

A nightmare.

Valaraukar nodded to himself to confirm it, dipping his head down until his nose touched the forehead of the Guardian, closing his eyes as he entered the nightmare. Forcing himself into the scenario, he threw his power toward the source of his friend’s terror, the dark mass immediately evaporating into nothingness. His soul seemed to be appeased by the great fear it had absorbed, immediately flinging him out of the dream and back to where he was previously standing. It seemed he was in for a long night, even if his soul was plenty full.”
