盛夏的荫凉庇护着繁盛的庭院，烈日的炙热也被婉转成池水潺湲。虽不如贵族冠冕堂皇的奢侈，但也有着常规人家难以匹及的贵气。这便是我，伊万出生并生活的地方，坐落在繁荣之地，毗邻于王城脚下。商人络绎不绝，带来的珍品泛着异域神秘的光彩；术士慕名而来，传授高深的学问造就一批批王国的栋梁之才；吟游诗人也留恋此地，漂泊的六弦琴化作枝头歌唱的黄莺。
彳亍于午后的庭院，西斜的夏日像一只慵懒的猫，在绵云编织的吊篮上肆意挥霍着无尽的光阴。在这个辉煌的时代，一切都会被冠以光辉的名义，沙场上的逃兵也能受万人憧憬。斑驳的树影缭乱了思绪，被时代的繁盛所遮蔽的不止是双眼，更是那颗早已被熏染的心。
我曾漫步于最奢侈的晚宴，水晶吊灯折射的光斑，如破碎的琉璃，映照在光泽如玉的晚礼服上。深海最纯净的珠宝，被巧夺天工的工匠变为上层人士追逐的龙宫宝藏。纸醉金迷的气息，宛若十指交握的酒杯中霓黄色的香槟，肆意地在舞池中挥洒。无论贵族亦或富商，都会在这歌舞升平中细细布置他们那精密的网，任何猎物或是同类，都逃不出层层的算计。我从不擅于往来于这群人之间，但也随波逐流得不与贫民沾边。
那是光芒在这圣殿般虚幻飘渺的仙境中投下的阴霾，是畏缩在角落中苟且偷生的存在。在这宫殿脚下埋葬的是工蚁般卑微的生命，我也数次见过它们的尊严被践踏成齑粉。贵族以观看它们间的厮杀为乐趣，粘稠的鲜血飞溅在土地上，勾勒出生者对活着的渴望。财富与权利，交织出这个世界的金钥匙，得到它们的人现在则坐在那正中央被一点点吞噬。
就连我的老师也叮嘱过我，在这个时代，能够生在我这种家庭即是正确，没有人能够妄想打破这一局面。最珍贵的宝物亦是从最底层开始剥削，而我也知道这无法改变。顺应这个社会，我渐渐学会用被动的行为保护自己，贵族的风向即是处世的道理。但我又羡慕在这个时代拥有反抗能力和精神的人，维尼尔就是其中的一位。他似乎有着让人难以抗拒的魅力，虽然我对他更多的是憧憬。
我知道，顺应强者能够让自己活下去。这便是最美好的时代中最上的选择。
