When the Herald Dagny still slumbered in her egg, a pair of loyal servants of the Lightweaver were called to one of her temples with one of their newborn sons. The hatchling had been chosen by the goddess herself as the Herald's assistant, her missionary, as the family had a long history of serving Heralds before this. With pride and temerity the parents entrusted their baby to the care of a clan they never heard of and a Herald not even born yet. They gave their son the name Chryses, meaning golden, then left him to his purpose. Chryses was there when the Herald he was meant to serve hatched, and he was the first face she saw. From that instant the pair were inseparable.

Along with his name, Chryses's parents also left him many texts and scrolls detailing how to create seals, hold energy, make barriers and many other useful skills that would come in handy in his service as a Missionary. He was also given a special headdress by the temple, which he donned when he had come of age and wore as often as he could. Covering his eyes symbolized giving them to the Lightweaver and also meant he would see through illusions by relying only on the Lightweaver's truth. That's the idea, at any rate. It would perhaps be a more powerful symbol if Dagny didn't keep pulling it up to get a peek at his golden eyes or taking off with it when she's in a playful mood.

Dagny enthusiastically refers to him as her boyfriend before adding he's her Missionary, and Chryses seems to let her. While he's nowhere near as energetic as she is about it, he is very fond of her in his own way, even admitting that she is his girlfriend if asked. He is aware that it's probably not wise to date your coworker, especially when your sacred duty is hunting the Shade and your job has a high mortality rate, but he insists it gives him more motivation to be careful and thorough. It seems to have worked thus far, as the two are a very successful team, but they are still young, and very new to this.

At first glance most think he is one of those somber, quiet holy types who never has any fun. That is only slightly true. Chryses tends to sit in the sunlight in meditation for hours, but will open up fairly easily when spoken to, especially for Dagny. He can even get a little playful, most often at the expense of the other Heralds.

Chryses has a laid back, calm approach to his work. He is able to keep a level head even in dangerous situations and doesn't let little setbacks throw him off. When things do get serious, he tends to only get more focused, pushing through pain and difficulty like a machine to make sure Dagny is kept safe. He would do anything for her and for his goddess, though it's unclear how he'd react if those two loyalties conflicted.

While usually calm and friendly, nothing will get him angry quicker than blaspheming his goddess or insulting Dagny. Little jabs are fine but when you get full-on nasty he'll show just how frightening the quiet can be. He actually caused someone to become blinded for several days when they caused a young Dagny to cry after making fun of how she acted. He afterward apologized, since he did not intend for it to happen, but it did get the message across that no one ought to mess with Dagny within earshot of her Missionary.
