Somehow both petite and robust, Reishi is an undeniable presence in the lair, even if he doesn’t say all that much. Years ago, the skydancer was a graceful flyer, and performed in many a prestigious air ballet, unmatched by any in the tangled wood. Unfortunately, his understudy became jealous and rigged a large piece of the natural cliffside backdrop to come loose, which landed squarely on and critically maimed Reishi’s right side, his wing muscles beyond repair.
Plunged into a depth of depression, he banished himself from the wood, and theater altogether, to live in exile. He ended up in the rookery within very little time, since his grounded state made him a huge target without a den. As time went on, he left less often, slept more peacefully, and no longer kept up the dancer’s regimen. Soon, his flightless body took a softer shape, one that reflected his new life of terrestrial existence. If not for the sincere friendship with Sqvish, the lair’s head alchemist, Reishi may never have been able to emotionally recover from losing his dearest practice. This friendship ultimately became platonic love, and even though Sqvish has her own portion of the den, most nights she can be found curled up at the skydancer’s side, snoring blissfully.
