Aragorn The Librarian |
Eventually, you manage to somewhat politely leave the eerie lair of Hellrise and Serezha, taking to the skies from the stone right outside the cave, forgoing the rickety bridge connecting the island to the rest of the Platforms. You circle the island for a moment, then spot another set somewhat high above which you fly to quickly. This island features a small lawn of neatly trimmed grass and a stone cobble path, which leads up to a grand building with large oak doors. Curious, you enter, finding yourself in a large, homely lit library it seems. Bookshelves reach almost to the ceiling, set in concentric rings around the large room. There are stairs to your right leading to a loft area, which looks to have comfortable seating for reading. Before you have the chance to explore, a Wildclaw with a red overcoat comes toward you, a warm smile on his face.
“Ah, hello there! I had heard a thing or two about visitors being about, was wondering when you would find my little library. I am Aragorn, the clan librarian, do feel free to explore but be cautious, I’m still working on balancing the shelves.” |

Origins
|
|
Born to parents in the Lightbringer's domain, Aragorn valued knowledge from the very moment he hatched. On most days, Aragorn could be found in the depths of the library of his clan, reading and studying the books he loved so much. His parents supported him in his studies, allowing the hatchling what was essentially free reign with his time, not forcing him to focus his energies on other ventures in life. When Aragorn wasn't reading, he would assist one of the many librarians in organizing and cleaning the library, tagging along to learn about the many duties of a librarian. Essentially, the bookworm rarely left the library, which formed an unintentional social boundary.
Unfortunately, life moved on even as Aragorn stayed among books, a fact that he learned quite painfully. When he re-emerged from the library after a particularly long study session lasting several weeks, Aragorn was met with the news that his parents had been exalted by their choice, wanting to serve the Lightbringer to the fullest extent they could. Aragorn was shocked, at first hating them for leaving him without notice, despite knowing they had likely tried to tell him and he was too lost in his books to realize. Talking with his clanmates, he discovered that they had tried to speak to him several times, but failing to gain his focus had written him a letter of goodbye instead. Eventually, the anger faded to a dull simmer, then to a bitter twist in his heart that was more guilt than anything. He lost his passion as well, finding the books he read so diligently too painful when he recalled who encouraged his studies in the first place. |
Hurting and dispassionate, Aragorn left the clan--still a young dragon--and went to travel the world, hoping to re-inspire his love for literature. He swept across the continent, doing odd copying jobs to get by without any real purpose. Soon enough, he arrived in the Shifting Expanse and met another Wildclaw known as Hellrise, who deigned to take the lonely dragon on as a companion. For some time they traveled easily together, Hellrise quickly taking up a fatherly role to Aragorn and showering him gifts, mostly small things like interesting rocks. It was only when Hellrise got him a book that Aragorn remembered why he was out here in the first place, and while he read it he rediscovered his love for stories.
Soon, Hellrise located the Galestorm Flyer's as a temporary stay, and Aragorn instantly fell in love with the large selection of books that the dragons kept and took to them like a bee to honey. Though they intended to only stay the night, Aragorn pleaded with Hellrise to take up permanent residence, eventually convincing his adoptive father to stay albeit grudgingly. Aragorn became the librarian, tending to the Flyers large number of books and tomes as he fell for the historian Bashiri. When the Flyers moved to the Windswept Plateau, the only complaint Aragorn had was the difficulty of packing an entire library to move, though he was more than content with the new location when they arrived. He enjoyed the better climate for the books, fewer chances of their pages being ruined in a sturdy floating building than deep underground. He has even found local artisans to rebind many of his older books, which he appreciates quite a lot. |

Despite Hellrise's surly nature and Serezha's insane tendencies, Aragorn is still a soft spoken dragon with a kind heart. He is always minimally polite, often friendly in an almost familial way, offering gentle smiles and a comforting cadence to those who manage to find him in the library. Aragorn is not necessarily a reclusive or antisocial dragon, but he is known to spend more of his time among books than dragons, forcing those who wish to speak with him to search him out in his ever growing library. Around the clan, Aragorn's polite and kind nature often earns him friends and allies, though there are some dragons he simply refuses to have contact with for the morals they hold. He has many friends, but few that find them in his close confidence, as Aragorn is known to keep his heart close to his chest after the disaster with his parents. The only dragons that truly know him are his family: Hellrise, Serezha, and Bashiri.
