Hysterical Strength

______ The first time Nashia touched the walls of the drowned ruins under Moonkeep, they screamed.

What are you? the ruins asked with Nashia's lips, a roll of static thunder that made ripples on the surface of the dark water.

And Nashia replied,




N̛͕̼͇̟͇̽̅̔̎͋̚̕͝O̶̹ͣͫ́̓̾̏̏̚͢T̡͚̘̻͓̗̻̼͓ͣ͂͛̈́͋̂̽̑͜͜ ̨̰̘͚̞̊̔͜Ȳ̗̳̘̲̜͚̟̤̳̍̾͊͡O̩̳̤̠ͨ̍ͯ͛̓̓Ṷ̙̙̆̾̄̍͐̉ͥͥ̀R̳͍͉̙͎̥̦̠ͦ̏̃ͣ̅̽͟͞S̜̺̯͉͋̍̓


______ So Nashia makes people a little nervous - even those of Moonkeep, who like to think they have a high tolerance for these sorts of things. The descendant of demigods and the child of prophets, she was born and raised in the year-round night of the deepest Shadowlands and groomed among the obsidian pillars of altars to be a vessel for sprites and angels, to give herself body and mind to channeling the voice of the Shadowbinder. (The other Marked look at her and whisper possession. But that's a rather blunt term for something so nuanced, isn't it?)

It's a gift. Few are suited to bridge the chasm between the divine and the mundane, and by the Shadowbinder Nashia was molded to be less of a channel than an amplifier, and a powerful one at that, suited for prophecy or priesthood. But the catch to giving your body up to the divine, Nashia has discovered, is that it feels overwhelmingly like ... well. Possession. And eventually, as the gods do all gifts, the Shadowbinder asked for her power back.

Nashia politely refused. And then she Ran for her life.

Thief, the forest whispers at her.

And Nashia replies,
