Vesta

While the Diabase Demesne has been for the most part blessed with peace and prosperity, there are times in which its inhabitants or those of a neighboring clan must pay their respects when a dear companion's tale nears its end. Pontifex Pele and her acolyte Canyonhide attend to the ritual aspects, but they each have hosts of other duties that must be seen to. But just as someone must stick around at a shop at close of day to see that everything is put away, attended to with the proper care and devotion, there must be someone to help usher people along the path to that good night that lets them make the most of what they still have. That dragon is Vesta.

She is warmer-hearted than one might expect for a child of the Icewarden whose profession deals solely with the dead and dying. Her personality is as glowing as the soft and comforting light of calm embers. Vesta does not keep herself detached from her work in order to spare her own emotions. Rather, she lets herself feel freely, so that her arrival as the sun flies to its repose is not seen as a dark omen, but a comfort. She does her best to help the family and doctors keep the [patient] comfortable and content, lending an attentive ear and supporting words. When the lights of another's life begin to fade and die, Vesta remains, lending her own raging light to keep their life shining and peaceful until the very end.

Afterwards, Vesta- sometimes with the family or an assistant's help, sometimes not- prepares the deceased's body in accordance with their wishes, and helps arrange for a proper funeral. While few eyes can ever remain dry at such an event, Vesta ensures that such a day is also one of remembrance, a celebration of how their deeds danced on the stage of life, a reassurance that there is no need to fear the oncoming of that dark.
