Sunship
The Ghost of A Goldsmith
Haunted and haunting, stuck in an everlasting dream... Arrived in the Clarus Clan on 42141 There had once been a dragon who lived beneath the Willow, with bold, gold and red markings on his shimmering, dark scales. He was level-headed and creative, and well-liked by his Clanmates. Sunship enjoyed his work in the smithy. He was critical and daring with his own work; however, when it came to other Clanmates' work, he was quick to compliment them and often unwilling to critique them. He did not push them to a challenge. Sunship was enthusiastic whenever anyone entered his den, and he was talkative when he had visitors; however when he went out and about, he preferred to stick to himself. He was quite happy to try out the latest fashions he created on himself and liked gold adornments. It made him very happy when his Clan sold his work to others in the area! Tucker always ensured that he reported customers' compliments on Sunship's creations, which made the Pearlcatcher's day. He has had a casual relationship with Stonecoil in the past, before the Skydancer left to continue his journey to see the world. Sunship missed him fondly, but he knew the relationship would never work out even if he had stayed in the Clan. Stonecoil had so much attitude - and he was so impatient. |

Sunship often grew mopey when he began to remember his failed romance, and so he tried to distract himself with good work and better company. After that, Sunship spent a lot of time with some of the warmer dragons in the Clan, including the Fire Pearl, Pyrrha, whom Sunship hoped would be a better friend than Stonecoil had been. But then both of his parents passed away in the great Hypnos Scandal. No. His mother had been murdered, and his father was held responsible for the crime, before being executed as well. Sarako had killed Khseraf in cold blood. Sunship was devastated. |

Sonata's daughter, Adagio, had been caught in the middle of the swirl of confusion and deceit. Now Sunship's only remaining family was a sister in a Light Clan far away, and two siblings captured in Silenced Clans too distant to save. Since the scandal, Sunship has lapsed into a quiet that has hurt his close friends who attempted to cheer him up. More than that, it hurt himself. He had fallen into a depression that was, for a time, too rocky to escape. But then Sunship realized he was not alone. There was another in the Clan, someone who was able to support him in even the roughest days following his parents' deaths. As Sunship pushed on through each day, he realized that Jassu - the Clan's dream-keeper - was kind, supportive, a little troubled himself. The two dragons grew closer, and without ever once speaking the words aloud, became mates. All was well - until it was not. Jassu’s control of dreams became uncontrollable. Sunship realized it was becoming harder and harder for Jassu to save his mate from nightmares. And it became dangerous for Sunship to dream while Jassu was asleep. They could no longer sleep together, dream together - their schedules needed to alternate, or else they risked Jassu seriously harming Sunship. For a time, they made it work. They slept in shifts, although Jassu’s waking hours became more tormenting each day. The Skydancer needed more sleep than most, for his waking hours were not enough to satiate him. And when Sunship was asleep, Jassu wanted nothing more than to sleep with him, where they could escape reality and enjoy their dreams together. But Jassu would not risk Sunship’s life. Not like that. |

No matter how careful the two were, it would never be enough. Sunship still is not sure how it came to be. But one night, Sunship passed away in his sleep - and his spirit was caught in his dream, unable to escape. Jassu had fallen asleep beside him in their shared den - perhaps that had something to do with it. The dreamkeeper had been unable to stay awake - and the dreamer never woke. Now, he remains as a mere figment, caught in a half-faded dream, kept alive only by the will of his... of an important dragon… he can’t quite remember… there is a strange Skydancer who enters this plane often, intruding on his existence, and Sun- sees that he is torn apart. it is as if the Skydancer… the strange one… is trying to repair the damage to… but Sun- does not know, cannot know, what the Skydancer means by it… there’s something strange now… about Sun-’s spirit. and now Sun- is gone, and will forever remain dying, half-dead, never alive, always forgetting… Sun- feels like there is something he is missing, something… that has come before this remaining dream, this half-faded nightmare… but Sun- can hardly remember himself anymore, and has already lost… his name… his memory… his… what else is there for a dream-ghost to have - to love, to live, to...? |
