SUNLOCK
The Devil | The Golden Rulers | Kingdom Home

---

Most would find sorrow in their lack of sight, lamenting the loss of the sights of things deemed beautiful by most. You could not see the sun setting on the horizon, your lover’s face after a long, grueling day, or any mystical sight that dazzled the sense of sight. But it was strange, for he did not think of it as a disability. He saw things beneath the surface, the ‘Devil’, gleaning more than things that lingered just beneath the surface.
He thinks that he’s managed to assemble the people that he has, seeing beyond their scales and bones, seeing who they are, the potential of who they could be. Gathering up the Golden Rulers had taken time, but Sunlock would wait until the end of time for those who would stand with him against the Shade. Never again he wanted to see people hurt; tainted by the shade and all it touched, mercifully ending the existence of those too far gone to save.
Cool impassivity ruled his face in the moments it wasn’t split into a wide grin, a quip riding the curve of his lips as he played his affections out. But, for all his shameless flirting, he found it hard to get the silken words to slip past his maw whenever he was confronted with Alita. Whatever fate had in store, he simply hoped that it would be a happy ending—for him and for all of them.

The flirtations that crooned from his lips fell hard and fast onto the ears of their target, causing even the most jaded of dragons to come at ease under the honeyed words. It was a point of pride, something that swelled in his chest and made him feel giddy. At least, until the true subject of his affections came around, and he could hardly get a word in edge-wise with himself. So, times like these were particularly frustrating, considering the pair had been walking in silence for most of their short trip.
He battled with himself, on whether to say anything to the other, and if so, what to say. The silence cloaked the pair thickly, and it was eating at the blind dragon. He wondered if rejection would meet his comment, and he was scared to think that it would damage the slow relationship he had been building up with the other ever since he had given him a purpose other than killing. The argumentative battle continued to rage on in his head until he realized that Alita had stopped, the pearlcatcher pausing in turn.
“We’re here.” The wildclaw murmured, looking down at his companion. Sunlock’s voice caught in his throat for a moment, shuffling on his feet for a long moment before deciding to gather up his courage, consequences be damned.
“Alita, I—I really like you!” He blurted out, the pregnant pause stretching between the two of them. Only the slow, steady burble of the lava moving past broke the silence, Sunlock beginning to grow nervous at the lack of a response from the other, until he heard him draw closer. The wildclaw pressed his head to the top of Sunlock’s, humming a bit in acknowledgement before stepping away.
“I know.” He said softly, a simple answer followed by a wing stretched over the pearlcatcher, drawing him nearer to the other’s side.
