In order for someone to obtain power, a sacrifice must be made. Evelle was once a colorful, fiery child who loved to explore. Everyone who saw her would comment that her coloration looked like someone threw a large amount of lithium chloride into a fire. She would spend hours and hours roaming the streets of her birth city looking for adventure. Her favorite place was the glassblower's shop. Evelle would pepper the poor woman with questions about everything involving fire. She was completely enamored with anything hot, molten, or on fire. People began to suspect that Evelle's fascination came from a natural affinity. And they were right. Unfortunately for Evelle, she took after her father when it came to magic. She came into her abilities during her adolescence. She was so excited to be able to control fire that she used it with reckless abandon. The changes were subtle at first. She was tired after using her powers at first. It wasn't like she would pass out directly after a spell, Evelle would just yawn and feel a little fuzzy. Her parents also noticed that as she cast more and more spells, her complexion started to look less and less lively. Instead of looking like a lithium chloride fire, she began to look more like a potassium chloride fire. It was soon discovered that Evelle was one of the Faded. As she used her magic, she would sacrifice a part of her life force to see the spell through. If she used to much magic or if a spell was too big, she could forfeit her life. The grim reality of her magic did not stop Evelle from enjoying the little spells she could handle. She still loved hanging out with the city's glassblower and hoped one day to master the craft herself so that she could still be connected to her element without the draining effect. Evelle eventually decided that Dragonhome just wasn't for her. She gave her mentor one last parting gift, a glass orb she had made without her magic. |
