"What's in a name?"

windtop.png
Seadune completed his quest in seeing what his name consisted of and now he has a new mission: finding himself a girlfriend!

Clans helping me on my quest:
  • Volrin, #261879 - "So, what's your name?" The Pearlcatcher guard asked in a friendly tone, having completely shed the scary disposition she had held earlier. Seadune ruffled his feathers with contempt as he growled.

"My name is Seadune, not that it makes any sense as a name. I have no idea what either of those words even mean!"

The crystalline guard chuckled a little bit at his exasperation. "Well, I can tell you what those words mean, if it helps at all. We get all sorts of dusty sand dunes during hot summers, here in the Lightweaver's territory; they're huge ridges of sand and grit that get blown around by the wind. As for the sea, it's a huge body of water that surrounds all of the Flights on this continent. Maybe you'll get to see it up close someday, if you keep adventuring like this!"

That made Seadune think. Maybe, rather than spend all of his time trying to find an answer to his name, he should just enjoy himself on his adventure! The answer to his question would come with time. Thanking the lady for this insight, Seadune happily flew away to his next destination, whatever that may be.
  • Hijax00, #316089 - Seadune arrived shortly to a growing Wind clan, surprised that so many different dragons all lived there together 'nicely'. The leader of the clan, a dragon named Topaz greeted him kindly.
"We are happy to welcome you here traveler. For the time being, I'll have you bunk here with ShardSinger until you decide to leave. Make yourself at home here," he said, motioning to a nearby bogsneak. "Don't worry. He doesn't bite." Topaz winked.
Seadune walked up to the bright blue crystal dragon. ShardSinger looked Seadune up and down, chuckling as he did so.
"Like th' bandana. Nice touch." The bogsneak approved. "What's th' name kiddo?" Seadune stated his name, admitting he didn't exactly know what it meant. He'd been told some advice, which was very helpful, but he still wanted more. ShardSinger chuckled again.
"Boy, I haven' enjoyed meeting a dragon before in m' life till' now. Names don't need t' have purpose. Names are given because it's somethin' of a feeling. A nickname is fun, a name is personal, it's forever. It's what ya mama gave ya. T' hear or feel a name is important. Keep travelling. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for in th' end. Not one word is right, but th' words from everyone make a difference."
Seadune thanked his temporary roommate, especially for this new outlook of his name. Time for the next travel, to new places, and to new names.
  • CinnamonBun, #245348 - Seadune arrived cold and frozen at Falkor's feet. He collapsed and fainted from the cold, cold weather. "This dragon needs help. Right now." An imperial swooped in and grabbed him, immediately hauling him to a warm den. When he woke up, he drowsily spoke "H-hello. My name is Seadune." he then collapsed, as if speaking had stolen all of his energy. "Seadune, eh?" Falkor tipped his head to one side, amused. "Well, you sound like you belong in eather Water or Light. Or even Earth! Come on, I'll help you to the boarder."
  • TheL3mon, #176175 - The young coatl arrived on the L3mon Plateau and was warmly welcomed by the Matriarch, Cecelia. His pink bandana had started fraying during his flight and he wanted to get it fixed. He'd sought out the Clan's seamstress, a rose-coloured Wildclaw with a mind as sharp as her needles. He'd told her about his quest and she'd given him a long look.
At last she said, "Perhaps your answer is more obvious than you think." And then she'd handed him his bandana back, now fixed and re-hemmed, before taking her leave to tend to the garments of other clan members.
  • ToraAvanak, #301539 - Seadune was reluctant to return to the Ice domain and he was right. The minute he set foot into the frozen tundra a sudden snowstorm forced him into the shelter of a small cave. He knew he couldn't survive through this storm, so he nestled himself as tightly as he could and fell asleep.
When he awoke, he noticed a white Nocturne prodding him awake. With a start, he backed away to the far end of the cave. The Nocturne stare at him curiously as a large red Imperial squeezed into the cave. "Oh cool, you're awake!" The Imperial boomed. "I'm Red. Who're you?"
"S-Seadune." The Coatl couldn't relax with the Nocturne staring intently at him. Red glanced at his companion. "Don't mind Niya. She's always like that." With a flick of his tail and some difficulty maneuvering, he went out of the cave. "Let's go! We still need to check the northern paths!" Seadune stared after the Imperial as the Nocturne brushed past him. Without looking back, she called out, "Nice bandana."
The young traveler was pretty dumbfounded but since he didn't want to contract frostbite again, he followed the two dragons all the way back to their lair. Unlike the rest of the Southern Icefields, this place was as warm and inviting as the dragons that resided in it. After a delicious meal and a quick chat with the clan's archivists, Seadune talked with Red regarding names.
"Where'd I get mine?" The Imperial laughed. "I thought it was obvious." The Coatl shuffled his claws nervously. Red gave him a sympathetic look. "Hey, Seadune is a cool name. You just gotta... grow into it I guess."
"You think so?" Seadune looked up hopefully.
"Yeah. A name's value comes from how the owner sees it. At least, that's how I see it." He wasn't sure, but Seadune could've sworn Red shot a quick glance at Niya as he said this. Thanking the Imperial for helping out, the Coatl decided it was time to set off again.
  • Yuiiko, #312241 - "Hello!" A voice came out of no where, Seadune was stunned before he saw a fae flying towards him. "What's your name traveller? I'm Nelly, one of the caretaker of the clan residing near here." The fae's voice was sweet and gentle, not an inch of aggression. "
"I'm new to this place, finding a place to rest before going off again." Seadune responded. The fae motioned for Seadune to follow her, they crossed a riverbank before reaching a plot of land that is shrouded by trees and vines. It looked cozy, hatchlings chasing one another and dragons supervising them with smiles on their faces, they looked happy.
"Welcome to Forget Me Nots, a place of remembrance and peace. I hope you enjoy your stay!" Nelly responded, allowing Seadune to grasp what she said. Nelly went forward greeting her clan members and letting them know of Seadune's period of stay. Seadune only needed a night's rest before going off as he can't stay here long. Hatchlings stared at him with awe, dragons looked on warily but once Nelly spoke, those wary eyes lessened.
As the dusk arrives, a camp fire was situated in the middle of the open field. Lots of fun games took place, Seadune also participated. Stories of their adventures were shared, Seadune listened and plan for future visits to places they spoke of. It would be fun, Seadune couldn't wait. As sleep overtook his conscious, he dreamed of his journey.
Dawn comes and Seadune bid goodbyes and wishes of visiting again.
  • Home lair (Strukla, #90706) - Despite being nearly on the other side of the world, Seadune's heart started aching. It took him a while but he soon realized what this pain meant - he was homesick. So he gave it his best to reach the Windswept Plateau once again. Upon arrival, he was greeted by many familiar faces, and some new (probably more travelers, he thought), but he only wanted to see two: his mother and father. Unfortunately, while finding his father proved easy, Seadune's mother was nowhere to be seen.
To pass the time, since his inquiry about her whereabouts didn't provide results, he ruffled his feathers and sat down with Ianto, his father, telling him stories of his travels and slowly mending his heart.

If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, here, or to the thread Dragons off to see the world.
