Biography
Vulzund is an adult bronze dragon who has claimed a small oasis in the middle of the desert as her home. She frequently soars above the small city surrounding the oasis as a bird, and protects it from evildoers, desert-dwelling monsters, and other dragons. Though content to soar above the warm sands all day, she sometimes involves herself in the goings-on of the humanoids in order to understand what it's like to live with such a short lifespan.
She once helped a merchant bring exotic animals into the town and form a circus much to the delight of the citizens. After the unfortunate sickness of an elephant on their trek through the desert, she stole away with it in the middle of the night and consumed it entirely. As soon as she was done, she assumed it's form and returned to the camp. She delighted in this form while participating in the circus while also maintaining a vigilant eye for any cruelty to both animals and humanoids alike.
One trainer in particular had an impatient attitude toward some creatures he was attempting to train, and Vulzund quickly put him out of commission by tossing his small body into the air with her trunk, breaking both his legs upon his return to the ground. After putting him out of commission, a rumor spread that the elephant Vulzund assumed was either violent in nature or attuned to the unhappiness of animals and came to their rescue. Some formed plans to retire her for safety of the crew and crowd, but upon another incident of a trainer having a violent outburst at a dumb stablehand's mistake, most unrest faded into the background and they let her be. Eventually she retired her elephant disguise to return to her vigil.
In human form, Vulzund tried her hand at love. Appearing as a middle-aged merchant named Vula, she set up shop in town selling various books, manuscripts, and small trinkets of minimal value from her lair. A hardy adventurer caught her eye and they spent time together telling tales of adventure and hardship. The man had traveled across the desert and rallied a group of halflings, dwarves, and humans to fight off an encroaching bandit raid. So good was he at weaving his words that Vulzund took a liking to him. She gave him a bronze bracelet with an inset emerald design if he promised to return the next day and tell her more stories. Agreeing, he departed. Day after day they spent hours together in various locations, discussing various tales.
The traveller, whose name was Siido, spent nearly a month in the city chatting with Vula. He began hinting of a job offer protecting a caravan leaving soon, and Vula felt a pang of regret. She enjoyed his company and soothing words, and asked if he would return after the job. After some heavy discussion, they agreed on something Vula had considered, but hadn't thought herself interested in.
Siido suggested they raise a family together. At first Vula needed convincing to make sure it would work, as Siido wanted to still venture out on jobs to make extra money, but the more he talked the more she liked the idea. She had a house with more than enough room for children and stable social relations with wealthy merchants. They both had enough wealth to raise a family in relative luxury, and both had never raised children before.
The night before Siido was to head out on his job, they made passionate love. A few months passed during which Vula would slip out of the city disguised as a bird and scry her human mate to make sure he was still alive and well. There were a few tense moments where an orc or bandit left him with grievous wounds, and Vulzund learned what it was like to worry for another and consider taking to the wing to hunt down his enemies. She remained in her territory, though, and awaited his return.
