Head of the Nightwatch: It is the head of the nightwatch’s duty to stay on Council Hill and watch over the nightwatch members. They communicate with the members using their lantern. They can no longer find the light from one of the nightwatch members lantern’s or if the nightwatch member starts making suspicious movements the head of the headwatch is authorized to send another nightwatch member to investigate, wake up the defenders (who sleep in the ruins at the base of Council Hill), or ring the bell on Council Hill which proclaims an emergency.

Ursa’s first job inside the clan SunDragon was that of astronomer and it was while performed this job that she discovered her charge. As she studied everything in the night sky that created light she realized something. All of the lights she had seen in the sky were circular lanterns each guarding their own from the dark unknown. Feeling their call she raised her lantern high as part of the clan’s nightwatch and joined their ranks. Taking the clan as her charge she stepped fearfully out into the dark unknown, so that others would not have to.
Ursa learned how to use the bow and built a semi-circular hut on council hill to stand in. Others applauded these things for they thought that they were signs of her enthusiasm, but she knew their real purpose to calm her fears. The bow to attack and the hut to defend her back as each shadow seems to forms the shape of her mother in the darkness.

It is a myth that all of Rivere's children were still born. Ursa does not know if any of her other siblings lived beyond birth, but she does know that she lived. She is gentle soul who escaped in the early days of her mother's cruel reign. She has nightmares and the occasional panic attack because she thinks her mother will come to kill her. Little does Ursa know her mother has forgotten her thus Ursa’s fears are in vain.

Ursa is very fearful but courageous in the sense that she is working to overcome her fears. She has considered giving up being a nighwatch member many times because of her fears, but she knows that she could not live with herself if she gave up her charge thus she continues. In smaller matters she can seem indecisive at times often deciding not to do something and then changing her mind several times in the span of a few minutes as the conflict between her fears and courage escalates.

She likes to working independently of other because she fears they will be attack if Rivere finds her with them when she comes thus crowds terrify her. She could not bear to be the downfall of so many others. In fear Ursa often lies inventing reasons why she can’t meet with others for socializing. Thus others perceive her as a busy person. In reality she suffers from loneliness.
